Wheaton is a private, coeducational, liberal arts college of 1800 students located in Norton, MA and within easy commuting distance of Boston and Providence.


Summary
The Electronic Resources Librarian serves as the library’s serials control professional, providing scholarly information in the form of periodicals, newspapers, microform, electronic journals, newspapers, and databases to the campus community. This position is part of the Discovery and Access team, which focuses on direct services and support to faculty, students, staff, and Library colleagues.


Primary Responsibilities


Manages the library’s e-resources collections, including access, budgeting, analysis, and assessment.

Works closely with faculty and Library colleagues to ensure that library resources continue to support the curriculum.

Maintain awareness of trends and ongoing developments in areas related to the entire life cycle of e-resources.

Manages the e-resources budget.

Promotes alternatives to fee-based information resources, such as open access publications and open educational resources.

Contributes to an inclusive, equitable, and respectful environment that values and affirms the diversity of the college community.

Wheaton has been operating under a remote hybrid teaching model in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It is our hope to return to an in-person teaching model for the fall of 2021. While this position may be temporarily remote, there is an expectation that the work performed will be on campus when the college determines it is safe to return to in-person operations.

Education
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library/information science program or significant, relevant work experience.
Experience

Minimum of 3 years experience working with serials and e-resources, preferably in an academic or research institution.

Experience selecting, analyzing, and disposing of e-resources and serials.

Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with faculty, campus partners, vendors, consortia, and publishers.

Experience negotiating e-resource licenses.

Experience managing funds and budgets.

Experience coordinating complex details, funding sources, and complex workflows to achieve strategic goals.

Knowledge

Industry standards related to serials and e-resources, e.g., ISSN, OpenURL, KBART, SERU, COUNTER, SUSHI, WCAG etc.

User needs and patron satisfaction studies.

Copyright, fair use and other intellectual property issues pertaining to e-resources and license agreements.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to work in a collegial and collaborative environment.

Ability to identify and solve problems.

Ability to initiate and plan strategically for new services.

Ability to learn new skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate about technical issues with non-technical audiences.

Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and thoroughness.

Project management experience or aptitude.

Equivalent combination of experience and education may be substituted for the above educational requirement.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with OCLC WMS, OCLC Discovery, OCLC WMS Knowledge Base, EZProxy, and Springshare’s LibGuides is beneficial, but not required.
