A multifaceted cultural heritage organization consisting of the Getty Conservation Institute, Getty Foundation, Getty Museum, and Getty Research Institute, the J. Paul Getty Trust (Getty) is dedicated to the presentation, conservation,
and interpretation of the world's artistic legacy.
With an active program of digital preservation activities in place for over a decade, a Trust-wide position was created in 2018 to specifically address digital preservation issues across the institution.
“As a long-time consumer of the excellent resources produced by the DPC we are thrilled to now be participating more actively in this important work for the benefit of both our institution and the wider cultural heritage domain,” says Teresa
Soleau, Digital Preservation Manager at Getty.
“Digital preservation is essential to what we do as a memory institution. We are collecting and generating an increasingly wide variety of digital assets, from component-based websites to 3D data files, requiring new approaches to ensure
long-term access and usability,” explains Lily Pregill, Head of Collection & Content Management Systems for Getty. “This work is a cooperative effort across our institution and with colleagues in our community. We look forward to engaging with the DPC as a
resource and conversation partner on digital preservation topics as we expand our digital preservation policy and develop strategic directions.”
Juan Bicarregui, Chair of the DPC Board, welcomed Getty’s commitment to the ongoing challenge of digital preservation, saying:
“As a leader in the cultural heritage domain, I am delighted that Getty has become a member of the DPC community. On behalf of the Coalition, we look forward to learning about their work and working together to advocate for digital preservation
across this sector and others.”
The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy
work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
