The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is making its Digital Preservation Framework Preservation Plans available as a Linked Open Dataset, a first for the agency.

Aimed at sharing NARA’s research with digital preservation professionals around the world, the dataset expands access that was previously available only through GitHub.

The Digital Preservation Framework describes best practices for the preservation of 684 file formats, some dating back to the first transfers of electronic records to NARA 50 years ago.

The dataset is available as a bulk file with supporting schema and property files, and as plans for individual file formats, all in the RDF-TTL format.

For more information, please read the NARA announcement, available at: https://www.archives.gov/news/articles/digital-preservation-linked

The Preservation Plans Linked Open Dataset is available at: https://www.archives.gov/preservation/digital-preservation/linked-data

The full Digital Preservation Framework will continue to be updated and available through NARA’s GitHub repository: https://github.com/usnationalarchives/digital-preservation
