Call for Papers: Cataloging & Classification Quarterly (CCQ) Special Issue Implementation of Faceted Vocabularies Faceted vocabularies are used in traditional catalog environments as well as digital repository and other non-MARC environments in libraries and other settings. Examples of such vocabularies include Faceted Application of Subject Terminology (FAST) as well as Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms (LCGFT), Library of Congress Medium of Performance Thesaurus (LCMPT), and Library of Congress Demographic Group Terms (LCDGT). FAST is broadly focused and is used with all discipline. While derived from Library of Congress Subject Headings, FAST does not have the complexities and is easier to learn and apply. Its post-coordinate approach with subject terms is more consistent with other online applications and more familiar to potential users. FAST can be used with BIBFRAME and other linked data applications. LCGFT, LCMPT, and LCDGT are more narrowly focused faceted vocabularies. This special issue of Cataloging & Classification Quarterly will focus on strategies and methods for implementing faceted vocabularies in MARC and Non-MARC environments in library and other settings. Potential topics include (but are not limited to): * Standards and best practices for using faceted vocabularies * Retrospective as well as ongoing implementations of facet vocabularies * Faceted vocabularies for different subjects (e.g., Music, Cartographic Materials) * Implementations of facet vocabularies in countries outside of North America * User studies before or after implementation of facet vocabularies (to see if the implementation provided the desired outcomes or solved problems identified before implementation) Margaret Mering, Metadata Librarian, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will serve as the guest editor for this issue, which is scheduled for publication in Fall 2023. Authors are invited to submit abstracts (1,000-2,000 words) of their proposed papers to the guest editor for consideration by or before October 31, 2022. Written in English.
