University of Kentucky Libraries Data Applications Librarian Lecturer Wrapping up a historic $2.1 billion comprehensive campaign, the University of Kentucky has positioned itself to be a destination for students, scholars, and healthcare providers to forge new discoveries and arrive at world-class outcomes. University of Kentucky Libraries is vital to fulfilling the goals of enhancing and expanding the university's research enterprise, and we are looking for a visiting Data Applications Librarian to strengthen and expand UK Libraries research data services, particularly in data refinement, analysis, and visualization. This 2-year position will join the growing Digital Scholarship and Data department of professionals with expertise in research data management, digital scholarship, and scholarly communications. Serving all academic disciplines, the Data Applications Librarian will be a catalyst for agile, efficient, and impactful research across campus. Early career scholars, including those who will have completed at minimum a Master's degree by September 1, 2023, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be eligible for an allowance to cover house-hunting expenses (e.g., airline costs, hotels or auto rental agencies), a temporary housing allowance for up to three months, and a generous relocation allowance. Duties and Responsibilities: * Develop and share expertise on best practices and workflows for data refinement, analysis, visualization, and modeling with an emphasis on open and reproducible practices. * Provide support in the use of software tools or APIs which enable qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis (e.g. REDCap, Python, R, Qualtrics, SAS, SPSS, NVIVO, Stata, MATLAB, etc.). Build proficiency with programming languages to refine and transform data. * Assist researchers working with structured data, data markup, and encoding, with consideration for eventual deposit to repositories. * Offer individual and research team consultations for students, faculty, and researchers across all academic disciplines and colleges. Serve on grant and project teams as appropriate. * Identify opportunities to connect with and provide support for research coordinators and early career researchers to build capacity for responsible data practices. * Collaborate with liaisons and subject specialist librarians to provide responsive and customized data-related instruction. * Remain current on trends and issues related to digital scholarship, scholarly communication, open scholarship, and broader impacts, particularly in the context of research data and code. Share advancements with colleagues on campus and within the profession. Required Qualifications: * Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program by appointment date or equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree and experience. * Experience conducting data analysis in a professional or academic setting using any of the following tools: REDCap, Python, R, Qualtrics, SAS, SPSS, NVIVO, Stata, or MATLAB. * Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new skills and tools; evidence of ongoing, self-directed learning. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Preferred Qualifications: * Familiarity with a broad range of data analysis tools. * Experience working in a research environment, academic library, or similar setting (including but not limited to internships, practica, and student employment). * Instructional or consultation experience with a range of constituents, especially the teaching of technical skills.
