We are excited to share with you an opportunity to serve on a PCC Standing Committee or Advisory Committee! We are now looking for new members to serve a 3 year term (starting October 1, 2023), with the possibility of one renewal.

We have openings in the following committees. Please follow the links to read the committee charges, and learn more about the current work of the committee and the current members.

Standing Committee on Applications (1 opening)

Standing Committee on Standards (3 openings)

Standing Committee on Training (3 openings)

Advisory Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (3 openings)

Identity Management Advisory Committee (2-3 openings)

Linked Data Advisory Committee (3 openings)

Committee members are expected to participate in meetings and email discussions of the committee, as well as contribute to task groups formed by the committee. Most committees meet at least once a month virtually. In person attendance at meetings is not required to serve on a committee. Furthermore, although the majority of each committee’s membership must be drawn from PCC participants, there are opportunities for non-PCC members to serve as well.

For standing committees, applicants may be considered for regular 3-year positions or 1-year internship positions (both types of position are eligible for one renewal). The type of appointment offered to an applicant will be based on the needs of the committee and on the experience level of the applicant. In those years that intern openings are available, applicants will be selected who self-identify as new (~5 or fewer years) to the profession, new to cataloging/metadata, new to the PCC, or new to PCC committee work. The goals of the internship program are to expose the interns to the work of the PCC,  to allow them to gain insight into the workings of a PCC committee, to mentor them on how be active in PCC, and to develop them to potentially serve as full members of a PCC committee in the future.

Also, since we may have many volunteers for only a few openings, please let us know if you would be interested in serving on task groups in the future, and if so, any particular areas of interest.

The PCC is committed to increasing the representation of diverse populations on its committees and task groups. It recognizes that a culturally diverse organization is enriching, fostering innovation as more perspectives are considered, and critical to the organization's success. Therefore, it is interested in encouraging participation by individuals who are committed to fostering an environment of accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Individuals with experience in culturally diverse settings or who are members of underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply. As part of your statement of interest, please describe your previous experience or commitment to working in a culturally diverse setting and how that might be pertinent to your application.

We welcome self-nominations as well as nominations for metadata practitioners who are eager to work with their PCC colleagues in a thriving community to improve the quality of metadata and the metadata ecosphere while making connections and hopefully having some fun!

To apply or nominate, please use the Google form at: PCC Committee Member volunteer form

We will accept applications until September 17, 2023. We look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks,

/Charlene (on behalf of PCC Policy Committee)
