The Library of Congress is working with MirrorWeb, in a research consultation capacity, to study aspects of website archivability in the context of web archiving. Part of MirrorWeb’s investigation, on the Library’s behalf, involves querying the web archiving community to ensure a wide understanding of various archivability issues throughout the practice. Regardless of the maturity of your web archiving work, we invite you to take the survey and lend your insight. Please find more information about the survey below from MirrorWeb. At the end of the research period and in collaboration with the Library’s Web Archiving Team, MirrorWeb will collate and present findings in a blog post on the Library of Congress Signal blog and at other external venues.

Hello web archiving community! As websites become more reliant on dynamic content, web archiving often struggles to keep pace. Increasing complexity typically makes sites less archivable over time. There has been an increased appetite to encourage site owners to prioritise archivability during website development, and through this survey we aim to highlight key tenets to help outline that message.

 

We want to gather insights from people across the web archiving community to understand the technical and semantic challenges they face during capture, quality assurance, and replay. We are aiming to identify the most prevalent challenges and determine the interest in understanding the root causes of these issues. Our goal is to provide accessible guidance and explanatory material on website archivability, which will depend upon insights from across the diverse breadth of the community, and we therefore welcome responses from as many community members as possible during the data-gathering process. Individual responses are highly encouraged, and we welcome multiple responses from organizations. Your diverse perspectives will contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of web archiving challenges and potential solutions.
