There have been issues over the years with replacement batteries that don’t have the circuitry that keeps the batteries from overcharging or otherwise stopping if it heats up too fast. You might save a few dollars buying a third party battery, but it’s not worth it if catches fire while you’re sleeping. One site that I’ve used many times over the years is iFixIt.com (formerly PBfixit, when they specialized in Apple Power Books). They also have a lot of free guides on how to disassemble various laptops and electronics, will buy (some) old laptops to strip for parts to resell, and have filed lawsuits relating to the ‘right to repair’. -Joe
