access testing is now implemented in Lighthouse.

For those who may have missed the earlier thread: Lighthouse is a
lightweight testing framework designed to help libraries proactively verify
access to subscribed electronic resources.

In the attached recording, you’ll see the agent running in a test
environment. The agent first establishes an OpenAthens session and then
proceeds to execute access tests for BMJ and AIP. This demonstrates the

We've done both things: send users automatically to another URL and shown them a landing page (using login.htm). We’re using a landing page right now. One thing to be careful of when showing users a landing page is that anyone using the Zotero Connector browser extension with the proxy configured will repeatedly be brought back to the EZproxy landing page – essentially causing a loop. It took me a while to figure this out. It’s the proxy host entries in the extension that cause the issue. [...]

The approach seems sound to me. We did something similar (also using PHP) a few years ago when we migrated from one discovery interface to another. We had quite a few internal apps that linked to individual resources and of course the search engines kept trying to crawl it for a while. We didn't do a landing page; we just returned a 301 with the new URL and logged it. We were able to eventually find all our own links to fix and notify any external ones. As you say, eventually they dwindled down until we got rid of it. [...]

Hi,
We moved from self-hosted to OCLC-hosted EZProxy a few years ago, and we did set up forwarding from the old self-hosted instance, but we also made a spreadsheet and going by most to least use, worked to update the address with each vendor.
It was a bit of a pain, and we do still find the occasional database that has the old address, but other than that it’s worked out well.
We did also send out a message to all our departmental contacts that they would need to update their Canvas links to databases, and ran link-checker in our [...]

We considered that switch too but decided against it due to the cost and our preference for self-hosted options. EZProxy config management was the driving factor in considering the switch though, so I started working on a project to make that easier. Our e-resources team has started using it to audit our stanzas, but the app still needs a lot of work. I'm hoping to open source it sometime in 2026. [...]

We're considering a move away from self-hosted EZproxy and one-off Shibboleth SSO connections to our vendors, to OpenAthens. People are, understandably, concerned about the migration. Obviously, we'll change the links we control, but we don't control our faculty colleagues' Canvas shells, for instance.

Since we host (and control, down to Apache settings) our own proxy server, is there some fundamental reason why we couldn't do some kind of forwarding, rewriting requests with our proxy prefix to have the OpenAthens prefix on the fly? Has anyone done this? [...]

One of our 3-2-1 preservation pillars is a local Synology NAS set up with
min.io so that we can write to it and our cloud pillar using the same S3
protocol.

Our existing JavaScript was listening for the submit event, but somehow things would still slip by periodically. I'm not sure how. It's a mystery.

Moving the logic server-side means that we no longer need to worry about the vast profusion of possible interactions of user agent, device, extensions, password managers and so on. There's exactly one computer that needs to get it right, and that's the EZ Proxy server. [...]

Just speculation, but the frontend JavaScript may be working less
frequently as password managers and autofill are used more. It's possible
some of those don't trigger the same events, like "blur", in an expected
way. If you're listening to the "submit" event and then stripping
the @domain.tld then this is less likely. Either way, making the fix on the
backend seems the most foolproof. [...]

In the end I'm probably just going to install the H5P plugin on WP multisite and have them use the image hotspot tool if they are going to annotate an image as part of their dataset analysis presentations. Has anyone set up annotation on Omeka S? I have been successful using
Mirador but only the annotator can see their own annotations. I have yet to
see instructions on how to make annotations viewable by all. The type that
allows for a shape to be drawn on an area where you want to annotate. I
presume it requires some sort of server logging so it's not only in one's
personal browser. I have posted to the Omeka Forum but no detailed
implementation response yet. [...]

I did this as an undergrad with omeka and neatline. Neatline is a mapping application but you can set the background to be a static image and then add annotations.

https://storymap.knightlab.com/gigapixel/ - essentially this approach. Not metadata. The reason I'm not going with StoryMapJS's Gigapixel is because running all of their images through Zoomify is a giant pain.
