The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a creative,
collaborative, enthusiastic professional for the position of Technical
Services Archivist. Reporting to the Head of the Archival Processing Section
in the Special Collections Technical Services Department, the Technical
Services Archivist will manage the arrangement and description of manuscript
collections, institutional records, and faculty papers in all formats.

  
The incumbent will arrange and describe archival materials according to
national and local standards and best practices; author EAD-encoded finding
aids; work in collaboration with staff in the Bibliographic Section of Special
Collections Technical Services to create MARC records for archival
collections; and participate in special projects relating to Special
Collections Technical Services work. The Technical Services Archivist will
train, direct, and review the work of graduate and undergraduate student
assistants.

  
The incumbent will participate in University committees and other groups as
appropriate. The individual in this position is expected to be active in
scholarly and library professional organizations and the academic community.
Demonstrated professional achievement, service, and scholarly/creative
activity are required for reappointment and promotion in rank.

  
The Technical Services Archivist will participate in public services with a
regular weekly reference desk shift and occasional weekend desk service.

  
**QUALIFICATIONS  
Required:**

ALA accredited master's degree in library or information science or advanced
degree in archives administration, public history or other relevant field.
Demonstrated experience with archival processing that is user-driven,
flexible, and incorporates varied approaches. Demonstrated knowledge of
principles and practices of archival arrangement and description. Demonstrated
knowledge of current national data content and structure standards related to
the archival control of collection materials. Demonstrated project management
experience. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with administrative
staff, faculty, information technology staff, and library and curatorial
staff. Superior interpersonal, communication, and writing skills. Evidence of
commitment to the archival profession by memberships and participation in
professional associations, and record of ongoing professional development and
contribution.

  
**Preferred: **Familiarity with the issues surrounding the administration of born-digital archival materials. Administrative and supervisory experience. Prior academic library or higher education work experience. Grant writing and management experience.

This is a twelve-month academic librarian appointment; salary is commensurate
with qualifications and experience. Standard state benefits of annual leave,
