The University of Denver Libraries, comprised of the Main Library at the Anderson Academic Commons, the Bonfils Stanton Music Library in the Newman Center, and the Hampden Center, is a highly collaborative, team-based organization that serves a diverse population, ranging from our students, staff, and faculty to public and other academic patrons from the surrounding region. The Anderson Academic Commons is the campus centerpiece for collaborative, technology-infused teaching, learning and engagement. The University Libraries is central to discovery and creative interaction among students and faculty, and provide collections, services, personnel, and systems that support the teaching and research programs of the University. The institution is dedicated to the goal of building a culturally diverse and inclusive faculty and staff committed to teaching and working in a multicultural environment.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Scholarly Communication &amp; Collections Services, the Information Technologies Librarian plays a vital leadership role in the development and provision of University Libraries technical infrastructure. The incumbent functions as the main technical product owner for the organizations library management solution, Alma, as well as interlibrary loan and digital repository software. In this capacity the incumbent works closely with faculty and staff in technical services, access services, the Westminster Law Library, and other areas where these systems are vital to daily operations. The incumbent also works closely with IT@DU and vendors on hardware, networking, and authentication issues, and provides vision for a comprehensive strategy for curation of University Libraries digital collections. Supervising two staff members with responsibilities in application development, the Information Technologies Librarian also works closely with other departments in developing and improving existing discovery platforms. Library faculty at DU actively engage in scholarly activities through research and publication, and participate in professional organizations, as well as library and campus committees.

Essential Functions

Manage back-end technical aspects of the LMS.
Configure integrations across various library systems.
Supervise two staff members with application development responsibilities.
Create and implement strategies for organizations intranet and collaborative software and tools.
Create and implement strategies for storage of digital collections.
Work with IT@DU and vendors on hardware, networking, and authentication issues.
Manage Libraries technology budget in order to best support University Libraries faculty and staff in hardware and software needs.
Serve on library and campus committees and fully participate as an active member of a highly collaborative, team-based organization.
As a library faculty member, work in accord with the promotion guidelines, and engage in scholarly activities through research and publication, and participate in national and regional professional organizations.
Supervises two positions: Senior Systems Developer and Systems Programmer II
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to work in a team environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and knowledgeably, both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices, issues, and trends in library information technology, including integrated library management solutions and associated software, and metadata.
Prioritize work of developers as well as technological needs for University Libraries.
Advance DU’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, and engage effectively with a broad spectrum of culturally diverse groups.
Work independently and effectively, using tact and excellent judgment.
Analytical skills for decision making.
Evidence of commitment to professional development and scholarly activities through research, publication, and service to national and regional professional organizations.

Required Qualifications

ALA accredited master’s degree in Library and Information Science, or equivalent.
Three years’ technology experience in libraries or related organizations.
One year of supervisory experience.
Working knowledge of IT infrastructure.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a knowledge, ability, or potential to engage effectively with diverse communities.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years’ experience with more than one aspect of workflow in a library management solution or integrated library system (Alma, Voyager, Millenium, Sierra, etc.).
Previous leadership experience in library or closely related IT fields.
Experience with library software applications (ILLiad, OMEKA, etc.).
Experience with digital repository platforms.
Experience in digital preservation initiatives such as LOCKSS, DuraCloud, DPN, etc.
Familiarity with traditional and evolving cataloging and metadata practices.
Commitment to professional development and scholarly activities through research, publication, and service to national and regional professional organizations.
