The Washington State University (WSU) Libraries invite applications for a Mukurtu Support Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Systems and Technical Operations, this position is a full-time, 12-month, and is funded by an Andrew Mellon Foundation grant for two years with the possibility of extension. This position is located at WSU in Pullman, WA.

Position Summary: As a part of a larger team comprised of personnel from the Center for Digital Scholarship and Curation (CDSC) and the Libraries Systems Office at Washington State University, this position will support and extend Mukurtu CMS in support of the Mukurtu Shared Portal and project initiatives including support for users, a training program aimed at tribal heritage institutions, and building and delivering resources (online and in-person) for the collaborative curation process. This position will also research new features and functions for the Mukurtu Shared platform to better serve a broad range of constituents. The Mukurtu Support Specialist will be an integral part of the Mukurtu Development team at the CDSC.

Job Duties and Responsibilities


• Work with Mukurtu Shared users and software developers to improve and extend the underlying Mukurtu CMS code and features to the Mukurtu Shared platform including planning, testing, troubleshooting, and soliciting user feedback;
• Maintain and grow the online support knowledgebase including creating, and updating support articles and videos targeted at end users;
• Troubleshoot user needs in-person, and over phone, by email, and by web conferencing platforms;
• Provide introductions to Mukurtu CMS to interested parties from a diverse range of institutions, which may include in-person and remote video sessions;
• Develop and run workshops and lesson plans including Mukurtu Shared and other topics in the collaborative curation workflow as needed;
• Travel to local, regional, and national off-site locations to provide general Mukurtu Shared training and to work directly with partner organizations/projects;
• Research and evaluate the feasibility, scalability and scope of work for deploying Mukurtu CMS in different environments;
• Work to extend the Mukurtu Shared Portal by adding, testing and deploying new features as a part of a larger development and support team;
• Support the creation and hosting workflow of digital heritage items through the Mukurtu Shared Portal for program participants;
• Consult on general digitization and digital curation workflows as appropriate for program participants.
Scholarship, Service, &amp; Professional Development:
• Conduct research for publications and presentations in areas of archives, library and information science, and/or other scholarly subjects;
• Maintain current awareness of content management technologies, trends on digital curation and Library Information Systems by reading professional literature, participating in professional organizations and committees, and attending workshops, institutes, seminars and conferences at local, state, regional, national and international levels;
• Share with CDSC, library and WSU colleagues and department faculty and staff relevant knowledge gained from professional activities and use that knowledge to improve information systems operations and knowledge in the libraries.

Required Qualifications:


• Master’s degree from an ALA-Accredited Library and Information Studies program at date of hire or relevant professional or cultural experience with Native American communities;
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, organizational, problem-solving and planning skills;
• Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently and to promote teamwork among colleagues;
• Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse communities.


Preferred Qualifications:


• Experience with Mukurtu CMS;
• Experience working with or supporting content management systems (Drupal 7 preferred);
• Familiarity with current trends in digital library initiatives and digital curation;
• Familiarity with Bootstrap CSS, CSS and HTML5;
• Demonstrated experience using version control (e.g., Git);
• Experience with access, privacy and security issues;
• Willingness to participate in an open-source community;
• Willingness to work in an agile-development team environment, assist in expanding the open source community of developers, and be flexible.
