LIBRARIES INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT HEAD
The University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries invites applications from experienced, visionary, and creative librarians to provide leadership and expertise in information technology services. The Head of the Libraries Information Technology Department has the title Faculty Director of Libraries Information Technology (LIT) and reports to the Associate Director for Administrative Services. The LIT department provides primary information technology services in support of the University Libraries’ mission and strategic plan. These technologies and services currently include the Libraries’ integrated library system, web servers, other servers, digital library initiatives, and more than 700 computers and associated peripherals in multiple campus locations. The faculty director, along with library and campus colleagues, will play a key role in developing strategies and future organizational structures to support next generation library services and resources. The successful candidate will have a strong theoretical understanding of the role of libraries in higher education. This position supervises a department of 1 FTE faculty, 8 FTE technical staff, and student assistants and therefore must effectively plan and evaluate performance and provide mentoring so that employees can achieve personal and professional goals. A significant part of the responsibilities of this position includes research and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Requirements for the position include
• Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program in library and information science or equivalent
• Five years of progressively responsible library information technology experience in an academic library
• Awareness of the latest developments in IT systems, standards, and trends as they relate to academic libraries
• Experience in supporting a vendor-provided integrated library management system
• Ability to solve problems and analyze and architect library technology frameworks in support of cross-unit library functions
• Ability to effectively develop and provide innovative services and facilitate change
• Significant supervisory experience that promotes teamwork among librarians and technical staff
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical issues and solutions to a diverse set of stakeholders
• Potential for research, scholarly work, and professional service.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in information systems or relevant degree
• Five or more years of experience in a research library information technology department
• Experience managing an Innovative Interfaces Millennium system and associated products
• Ability to effectively collaborate with campus stakeholders
• Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service
• Some programming knowledge
• Experience with securing outside funding for technology initiatives
• Evidence of achievement in research and creative work and service sufficient to merit tenure at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Appointment and Salary:
The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month), tenure-stream faculty member. Depending on demonstrated accomplishments in research, creative work, and service, appointment will be at the assistant, associate, or full professor level. The starting salary range is $85,000-$90,000. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, liberal sick leave, university group health care plans, group life insurance, TIAA-CREF retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave.
