I am pleased to announce that the Savannah developers' website
(https://savannah.gnu.org/),
which is part of the Free Software Foundation's GNU Project,
has agreed to host the IWF Metadata Harvester as a non-GNU
package. The project's main page at Savannah is here:
https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/iwf-mdh
and the project website is here:
http://www.nongnu.org/iwf-mdh/
Instructions for downloading the files can be found here:
https://savannah.nongnu.org/cvs/?group=iwf-mdh
and the CVS repository containing the files can be found here:
http://cvs.savannah.nongnu.org/viewcvs/iwf-mdh/?root=iwf-mdh
Using CVS makes it much easier for users to keep their local sources
up-to-date, and the web interface at Savannah makes it easy to just
browse through the files without having to download and/or unpack them.
Nonetheless, compressed archive files containing the current sources
will still be available from the following FTP server:
http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/gnu2/iwfmdh/
The mailing list [log in to unmask] is available for
users to ask questions and get help. More information is available
here:
http://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/iwf-mdh-help
In order to keep this list spam-free, one must subscribe in
order to post to this list. Postings from non-subscribers are
discarded with no reply. I'm sorry to have to be so strict, but
I'm afraid it's the result of experience.
In recent weeks, I've been working on the sub-package `scantest',
which implements an interpreter for a "Generic Query Language".
It is currently a "toy" program, since it doesn't yet perform any
useful work. However, it may nevertheless be of interest to some
readers of this posting.
When the executable (`sct') is called, it reads a file of commands
and executes them according to a set of rules, which comprise the
grammar of the language. The author has used GNU Bison, a
"compiler generator", to create the interpreter. More information
can be found in the file `iwf-mdh/scantest/README':
http://cvs.savannah.nongnu.org/viewcvs/iwf-mdh/scantest/README?rev=1.4&root=iwf-mdh&view=log
or
http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/gnu2/iwfmdh/scantest/README
Unlike the other sub-packages `ATest' and `ZTest', `scantest' runs under
GNU/Linux. In fact, the Windows version probably doesn't compile anymore due
to changes I've made while porting. The distribution contains a full set of
configuration files and it can be installed in the way specified by the
GNU Coding Standards, using `configure' and `make install'. That is,
it works on my system. If you have trouble installing it, I'd appreciate any
bug reports.
The files belonging to `scantest' can be found at Savannah, here:
http://cvs.savannah.nongnu.org/viewcvs/iwf-mdh/scantest/?root=iwf-mdh
In addition, a "snapshot" in the form of a compressed archive
(tarred gzip) file can be found here:
http://cvs.savannah.nongnu.org/viewcvs/iwf-mdh/scantest/SNAPSHOTS/?root=iwf-mdh
or here:
http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/gnu2/iwfmdh/scantest/
Any comments, questions, or feedback would be most welcome.
