Oregon State University Libraries invites applications for the Head of
Library Technology. This professional faculty position manages the Library
Technology Department by providing leadership and contributing innovative,
visionary, and strategic thinking to the department and the Libraries.
Department Description
The Library Technology Department supports the technology needs of the
Librariesı users and staff. The department oversees the Librariesı
technology infrastructure, including the information commons and classroom
technologies, the Librariesı website, web services, and other information
access and production technologies, and provides support for all of the
Librariesı unix, linux, and windows servers. The department also helps plan
and implement new library technologies and services.
The position oversees two faculty and two classified staff positions. The
Head of Library Technology interacts with other information technology
departments on campus and is a member of the Librariesı management team.
Position Responsibilities
This position reports to the Gray Chair for Innovative Services and serves
on the Librariesı management team. In addition to providing leadership to
advance the Libraries through the strategic planning, development,
implementation and maintenance of digital library tools and services, and
ensuring that the Librariesı technology infrastructure supports the needs of
the Librariesı users and staff, the Head of Library Technology also
researches new and cutting-edge digital library technologies, and
incorporates these technologies into the departmentıs strategic planning
where applicable. This position plays a lead role in helping develop new
digital library technologies, and is expected to remain current with new and
emerging library technologies.
Required Qualifications
1) A Masterıs degree from an ALA-accredited program or an advanced degree
from a computer science / information science program, or five or more years
experience working in libraries
2) Demonstrated supervisory experience.
3) Demonstrated experience in digital library technology development and
implementation.
4) Proven ability to plan and implement information technology services
within a library setting.
5) Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
6) Demonstrated leadership skills.
