Position available immediately: Web Programmer and Project Manager -
Systems Developer A&P
Responsibilities
Supports the design, development and deployment of innovative web-
based solutions to meet the variety of needs and services of patrons
and staff of The Ohio State University Libraries; collaborates with
OIT and Libraries' IT staff; gathers functional requirements and
plans and prepares detailed specifications of systems technology
solutions to meet project requirements; designs and develops web-
tools to enable content delivery & management, data collection and
report generation; maintains existing web applications and databases;
tests and debugs developed applications and middleware tools; manages
projects related to applications delivered through the OSU Libraries'
Web site including assisting with the selection, deployment and
support of a content management system; coordinates the work of inter-
departmental teams related to delivery of services via the Web; meets
regularly with team members and customers to assess project progress
and plan future activities; develops standards, policies,
documentation and procedures to ensure high quality Web sites;
ensures compliance University and ADA Web site accessibility
requirements; recruits and supervises technical staff and/or student
assistants; performs high-level troubleshooting for web applications
as well as remote access and proxy issues as needed and responds to
evening, weekend and holiday emergency service calls. Position
reports to the Systems Librarian.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's Degree in computer & information science or an
equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in web
application development and services that includes mastery of at
least one major middleware language such as PHP, ASP, Cold Fusion
or .NET required; demonstrated experience with data transfer
protocols & methodologies, relational SQL database design and
integration; experience in one or more of the following scripting
languages: Java, JavaScript, Visual Interdev, C++ and/or Visual
Basic; demonstrated familiarity with XHTML, CSS, XML, and XSLT;
demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills;
demonstrated understanding of Web usability and accessibility
principles; experience managing technology-based projects, people or
processes; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication
and collaboration skills; ability to work effectively with minimal
direction and learn new technologies quickly; flexibility to work in
a dynamic and evolving area both independently and as part of a team.
Desired: Work experience in an academic library or research
university; experience writing and maintaining web applications with
PHP and MySQL; familiarity with course management systems and
instructional support issues; experience implementing ADA
requirements and achieving compliance; supervisory experience;
experience using project management tools;
Salary: $50,000 - $60,000
