Intranet Portal Manager
InfoCurrent is accepting resumes on behalf of our client for an Intranet
Portal Manager.
Summary of Position
Manage the development of the intranet to make it a world-class resource
for the company's 30,000 employees. Immediate responsibilities include
working with the cross-functional steering committee to develop a 3-year
roadmap for the intranet and then selecting and migrating to a new
technology platform capable of accommodating the intranet's evolving
needs. From that point, the position would focus on enhancing usability
and employee adoption, strengthening internal governance, developing
robust decentralized content management and delivering a solid return on
the corporation's investment.
Responsibilities
The intranet portal manager will work with division and functional
representatives to make the intranet a powerful communication and
workflow tool, thus strengthening its value proposition for end users
and driving adoption throughout the enterprise. He or she will be
accountable for increasing and sustaining usage levels by enhancing the
usefulness of the intranet for all employees. In addition, he or she
will oversee the creation of a decentralized content management system,
including development of standardized templates and training users.
Specific responsibilities include:
* Define and execute strategies that improve content quality and
quantity, drive user adoption and make the user experience valuable and
compelling
* Implement governance that assures a standard "look & feel" across the
intranet and drive adoption of these practices. Ensure appropriate
consistency for navigation, site standards, taxonomy, guiding
principles.
* Coordinate and prioritize the activities and needs of divisions and
corporate functions as they relate to use of the portal
* Establish and analyze usage levels/patterns, metrics and solicit user
feedback to improve usability
* Leverage portal technology to improve knowledge management,
collaboration and application integration
* Manage associated vendor relationships to ensure their products meet
the business needs of the organization
* Investigate additional components to increase the portal's value
proposition, such as enhanced content and document management solutions,
alternative search strategies, and overall information improvements,
including interactive elements and social media where appropriate
* Periodically update the technical and functional service level
agreements that outline key processes, support and overall upkeep needs
* Assist with managing budget for maintenance, enhancements and new
development
Reporting Structure
The intranet portal manager will report to the director of employee
communications, and will collaborate with stakeholders across the
company, including content providers, users and technology leaders. This
role will closely partner with the technology teams assigned to the
intranet application.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
* 5-7 years of proven experience in portal and intranet development
including implementation across a global enterprise
* Solid understanding of business management and operations
* Ability to identify and communicate effective principles of portal
governance, information architecture and usability in order to build
consensus
* Ability to drive change across a large, global organization
* Solid understanding of all aspects of Intranet Web development
(strategy, user experience and technology) and how they interrelate
* Demonstrated ability to balance strategic, business and technical
initiatives while remaining within an established budget
* Working knowledge of content management, portal and collaboration
tools using Sharepoint platform
* Familiarity with n-tier application architecture including Web server,
application server and database technology.
