The Systems Librarian is responsible for the management and functional
enhancement of select digital products including, but not limited to,
the digital repository, the link resolver, and the federated search
solution in use in the Library.
Essential functions: Serve as System Administrator for the Library's
digital repository (DSpace), link resolver (SFX), and federated search
solution (MetaLib). Serve as first point of contact for issues related
to the operation and implementation of these digital products.
Investigate and implement advanced functionality and enhancements to
these digital products. Represent the UT Arlington Library at users'
group meetings and other related functions. Participate in other Library
Systems projects pertinent to the skills of the incumbent and the
strategic directions of the Library. Maintain an awareness of current
trends and developments in library automation and information
technologies. Participate in professional associations, workshops,
conferences, and meetings, and contribute to the advancement of the
profession and the status of the UT Arlington Library.
Required qualifications: Master's degree from an American Library
Association accredited institution. Experience with Microsoft operating
systems, including Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Experience with
UNIX/Linux operating systems. Working knowledge of computer networking
technologies, the Internet, web-based services, and current developments
in library applications of information technologies. Analytic and
problem-solving skills and demonstrate an aptitude for technical
analysis. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to
work in a team-based environment and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
Preferred qualifications: 2 years experience in an academic library
setting. Experience with digital repositories, link resolvers, and
federated search tools (preferably DSpace, SFX, and MetaLib). Working
knowledge of Apache, Tomcat, database design and administration. Working
knowledge of the OpenURL standard. Working knowledge of Z39.50 and XML
gateways for database searching. Working knowledge of at least one of
the following development environments: JavaScript, PERL, PHP, .NET.
