TITLE: *Instructional Technology Development Librarian*
Research and Instructional Services, Rutgers University Libraries

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Rutgers University Libraries seek an energetic, inventive, and
service-oriented professional to serve as Instructional Technology
Development Librarian. Reporting to the associate university librarian
responsible for the instruction and research services program, the
successful candidate in this new position will provide leadership for
planning, designing, and implementing standard and innovative
applications of technology to support the instructional programs of the
Rutgers University Libraries. The librarian will work closely and
collaboratively with students, faculty, librarians, and library staff to
participate and/or lead the design, development, maintenance, and
evaluation of web-deliverable interactive, self-paced lessons,
tutorials, and learning objects that will enhance learning for students
and other users. The librarian will provide technical support and
project management for system-wide initiatives to support the design of
context-specific applications, and provide leadership within the
libraries on the use of such applications. The librarian will serve as
liaison to instructional technology offices and programs at the
university, and represent the Libraries within the professional
instructional technology community. The successful candidate should
demonstrate commitment to continual professional development through
scholarly research relevant to areas of responsibility including
publications, presentations and participation and leadership in the work
of relevant professional associations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Requirements include an ALA accredited master’s degree or a master's
degree in instructional design or related field and a minimum of three
years of related professional work experience. Leadership and
pedagogical requirements include: comprehensive knowledge of current
instructional theories and principles applicable to various types of
online instruction or e-learning, preferably in a higher education
context; proven ability to scope and manage instructional technology
projects and relationships and to make desired progress on multiple
projects simultaneously; high level of expertise with facilitating the
design of instruction (use of instructional design models; familiarity
with learning theories; design and assessment of instructional goals and
outcomes, use of tools such as storyboards and flow charts); and
demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to work with experts
in multiple disciplines. Technical skill and ability requirements
include: demonstrated experience in the application of computer
technologies in the academic environment, particularly in the
instructional applications of technology; experience with a variety of
multimedia applications in a multi-platform environment. Preferred
skills include experience with instructional systems design, course
management systems, digital video, and web design.

SALARY: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

STATUS/BENEFITS: Faculty or staff, calendar year appointment, retirement

LIBRARY PROFILE:
The Rutgers University Libraries, comprised of libraries on the
university's Camden, New Brunswick and Newark Campuses, all reporting to
the university librarian, operate as a unified library system with
coordinated public services, technical services, and collection
development. The Libraries’ holdings include more than three million
volumes with a staff of 304 and a budget of $21 million. The Rutgers
University Libraries belong to ARL, CRL, RLG, Metro, NERL, PALINET,
VALE, and NMC. The Libraries use SIRSI, RLIN, OCLC, and a variety of

number of new activities that focus on the instructional mission and
programs of the university. A recent report on undergraduate education

requirement in critical thinking that incorporates information
competence and reasoning and that requires the teaching of library
resources. The Libraries are a partner with the new Office of
