FOR A LIBRARY SYSTEMS COORDINATOR

POSITION: LIBRARY SYSTEMS COORDINATOR
LIBRARY ASSIGNMENT:  THE GELMAN LIBRARY SYSTEM
PRIMARY LOCATION: THE GELMAN LIBRARY

APPOINTMENT RANK AND SALARY: Appointment at the rank of Librarian II
(minimum salary $45,000 or Librarian III, minimum salary, $50,000).
Rank and salary based on qualifications and experience.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Library Systems Coordinator (LSC) manages the day-to-day operations
of Gelman Library’s integrated library system (Voyager) and other
critical library technologies. The Coordinator applies technology to
solve problems and improve library operations. The person selected for
this position must have a strong commitment to teamwork and a proactive
approach to service. The Library Systems Coordinator is part of the
Digital Initiatives and Technical Services Division, and reports jointly
to the Associate University Librarian for the Division and the Head of
Technical Services.

The Library Systems Coordinator provides user support and training,
performs initial assessment and research on a variety of issues, and
resolves a wide range of technological problems, often of the highest
complexity, for a diverse constituency of library users, both in-house
and remote.

The Library Systems Coordinator serves as the primary Voyager system
liaison between the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC) and
Gelman Library, working with WRLC and Ex-Libris to develop outputs and
reports that meet stated library needs and to improve planning and
workflows.  The LSC also provides library support for other products
including, but not limited to, SFX, Metalib, 360 Resource Manager, and
Archivists' Toolkit.

The LSC participates in library planning, serves on library, Washington
Research Library Consortium (WRLC) and University-wide committees, task
forces, and teams.

Gelman librarians are expected to be active professionally, to
contribute to developments in the field, and to perform additional
duties as assigned.

 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

           An ALA accredited master’s degree in library or
information science, or its equivalent
           Three years of relevant experience in a library, museum,
archive or information center
           Demonstrated ability to formally manage projects ensuring
best use of library staff resources, adherence to library priorities
           Experience in administering, integrating, and
troubleshooting library electronic resources, specialized library
applications and systems such as Integrated Library Systems, OpenURL
resolvers, federated search engines, hardware, authentication and
security systems, and various licensed products  such as SFX and ERM
systems
           One year programming experience in XML, XSLT, etc.
           One year experience or coursework in SQL and database
development
           Demonstrated on-the-job familiarity with Unix/Linux
environment
           Demonstrated application development experience with one or
more open source software solutions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
          Proven record of excellent customer support and service as
well as a proactive customer service philosophy
           Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science,
Educational Technology or a related field
           Excellent customer service skills
           Excellent written, verbal, and communication skills
           Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical
people with ease
           Organizational and time management skills
           Strong problem-solving skills and ability to determine
effectively the root cause of issues and direct the appropriate
solution
           Demonstrated record of ongoing professional development
           Experience in using social networks and Web 2.0 approaches
