I fear the fallout may extend beyond individual libraries' scripts. I don't
know the details of which functions III is pulling from the character-based
system, but if they include checkout, checkin and holds, then a number of
systems that rely on interoperability among ILS products could be affected.
I'm thinking in particular of libraries currently using Sirsi-Dynix URSA
system for direct consortial borrowing. Will it slow interoperability
projects other vendors and open-source developers are working on? OCLC
local?
