Algoma University * Ontario*s newest independent university *
invites applications from
qualified candidates for the position of eServices Librarian, a
tenure-track appointment. This
position will be filled at the entry or junior level depending on
qualifications. Applications will be

Reporting to the Library Director, the eServices Librarian will provide
leadership in the
development of new and innovative services, with responsibilities for
developing, coordinating,
and overseeing the evolution of information systems and electronic
resources at the Arthur A.
Wishart Library. You will innovate in eServices areas including, but
not limited to, the Library*s
World Wide Web presence; the virtual research and instruction
environment; ASIN components;
digital transformation of the University*s unique collections. A
creative approach to developing
services and resources which facilitate access to local and global
knowledge and save the
user*s time is critical. Your knowledge of classification and
metadata concepts as well as
disruptive and emerging technologies will inform the University*s
strategies for developing new
learning, research and administrative landscapes.

You will participate in reference and information literacy vis-à-vis
electronic resources, and play
a shared role in collection development with your colleagues.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have an MLIS/MLS/MISt from an ALA-accredited
institution or
equivalent accreditation in library and information science with a
minimum of 3-5 years
experience in technology-rich aspects of an academic setting; an
undergraduate degree
in Computer Science (or equivalent experience, education and/ or
training) is preferred;
experience with the development of Web 2.0 and Semantic Web services as
well as an
advanced knowledge of new and emerging digital library technologies,
content analysis
and metadata standards (including MARC, MODS, METS, OAI, EAD, etc.)
experience with
cataloguing/classification; demonstrated success as an innovator with a
creative spark and a
strong team approach to development together with outstanding
interpersonal communication
and organizational skills. Experience with open source software and
philosophies will also
serve you well in this position. The University is seeking someone who
understands the role of
metadata and Web services and who can build on that holistic knowledge
to provide improved
access in a digital environment. We are looking for someone who can
introduce innovation
throughout the University and is willing to explore, play and encourage
failure in order to learn
and achieve goals. Experience with computer gaming would be an asset.
