Tri-College Libraries Web Developer
(Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore College Libraries)
Dynamic, creative, and highly knowledgeable Web Developer. If you fit
this description, then this may be the position for you. Tri-College
Library Consortium of Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore Colleges is
looking for a web developer with 3-5 years experience. The web
developer will be responsible for library technologies to enhance the
Tri-College Libraries’ digital services. Library technologies include:
information search and retrieval; digital content creation, access and
delivery; and administrative tools for library staff. Duties include
web programming, systems and applications support, data mining, and
some training. This position will support the implementation,
operation, and enhancement of core information systems such as the
integrated library system, inter-library loan/document delivery
software and systems, digital asset management systems, institutional
repositories, and other centrally-served technologies. While the
position will report directly to the Head of Information and
Acquisition Delivery Services at Bryn Mawr College, frequent
interaction and involvement with Haverford and Swarthmore library
staff as well as a strong working relationship with the IT Departments
of all three institutions is part of the Tri-College culture.
Required: BA/BS or advanced degree in computer or information science
or related field; proficient in current programming and/or scripting
languages or technologies including JavaScript, PHP, SQL; demonstrated
knowledge of Web design and development languages including HTML, CSS,
SML, and XSLT; working knowledge of data migration and crosswalks;
strong analytic and problem solving skills; strong written and oral
communication skills and a creative outlook on the use of technology.
Desired: Experience with Linux and/or Unix web servers and database
application configuration (MySQL, Oracle, and/or Postgres a plus);
programming experience using Python, Java, Perl, or Ruby; experience
with standard metadata formats, such as the Dublin Core; some
knowledge of Photoshop or other graphic design tools. Coursework or
experience in Library or Information Science or familiarity with
academic library technologies would be beneficial.
