The Digital Library Infrastructure group, a dynamic team focused on
realizing core components of the Stanford University Libraries’
emerging digital library architecture, is looking for an enthusiastic
semantic web developer wanting to contribute to a visionary project on
the Stanford campus, looking for hands-on experience with next
generation web technologies and collaborating with cutting-edge
partners in industry.
The Semantic Web Developer will be responsible for the design and
development of key components for the Self Archiving Legacy Toolkit
(SALT), a project to make the archives of distinguished faculty
accessible online in a semantically rich discovery environment. SALT
is to be a hosted software solution for displaying documents,
extracting concepts, placing concepts in a context of name
authorities, identifying tags, enabling voice or text annotations, and
encouraging relationships to be drawn. These tools together will build
a semantically annotated knowledge base. SALT will integrate with an
open knowledge store and a next-generation discovery environment from
partners supporting advanced navigational search. We wish to organize
and present our annotated content in a way that makes it most
discoverable, deliverable, and mashable by the next-generation
internet search tools.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelors degree in Computer
Science or a related field (advanced degree preferred), at least five
years of experience and must have programming experience with server-
side development experience using PHP (preferred), Ruby on Rails,
Perl, or Python, and SQL. They will have an excellent understanding of
HTTP, client-server interactions and caching, web services such as
REST. Web skills should include HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX,
XML. The candidate must have recent experience with semantic web
technologies such as RDF/RDFS, OWL, SPARQL, Sesame, MIT SIMILE.
Experience with semi-automatic statistical clustering techniques,
natural language processing, or ontology generation a definite plus.
Experience with Drupal, Django, or equivalent CMS ls also a plus.
