Sure, and then, if you have html tags in your marc, that system doing
the re-use is going to present content to users with escaped HTML in it,
which isn't desirable either!
You might think, oh, nobody is going to be re-using this particular marc
field, but then a few years down the line, the environment changes, and
you notice too late that you've got this big headache to deal with. This
is an experience many of us have had over and over with our decades old
MARC -- MARC written for a particular very specific environment, rather
than as good general purpose data, causing us trouble when the
environment has changed greatly but our data remains.
