I have some old MARC records that appear to have 007 fields that follow the pre-1981 structure.  

The LOC MARC pages mention this older structure in a note at the bottom of the page [1], but don't give a whole lot of information on it.

I'm curious if others have run into this, and what you've done to work around it?  I'm using the 007 -- in part anyway -- to determine the format of the item it describes.
