Hello Everyone,

I am Deborah Rossum, a Digital Content Manager, at SCOLA – an
educational, non-profit in McClelland, Iowa. SCOLA’s "mission" is to
help the people of the world learn about one another; their cultures,
their languages and their ideologies. SCOLA emphasizes the importance
and effectiveness of modern information technology as a tool in
overcoming barriers to global understanding and makes every effort to be
at the forefront of its application. SCOLA, for the past 27 years, has
worked closely with many agencies of the United States Government,
schools and other educational institutions in developing and
implementing highly effective satellite and Internet authentic foreign
language learning programs and services.

I look forwarding to working together.

Deborah

The NDSA is a collaborative effort among government agencies, educational institutions, non-profit organizations and businesses to preserve a distributed national digital collection for the benefit of citizens now and in the future.

While the NDSA organizational structure is beginning to be put into place (including who the working group chair from the NDSA is), the LC co-chairs wanted to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves and officially kick-off the working group listservs.

If a colleague of yours will be participating in this group instead of you, or in addition to you, please contact me directly ([log in to unmask]) for them to be added to the listserv (or if you'd like to be removed). We encourage multiple participants within and across working groups. And remember, your institution can change at any time if a particular working group is not a good fit.

Currently I am in the Office of Strategic Initiatives as the Web Archiving Team Leader. I work very closely with our selecting officials around the Library who decide what collections we build and what websites to archive.

I've been part of a group here developing the Recollection tool we gave a workshop on at the partner meeting this year. In 2009, I helped organize and participated in the public policy content strategy meeting (http://www.digitalpreservation.gov/news/2009/20090827news_article_public_policy_meeting.html), and am currently helping plan follow-up meetings to that and two others which focused on news (http://digitalpreservation.gov/news/2009/20091001news_article_digitalnews_meeting.html) and geospatial data (http://digitalpreservation.gov/news/2009/20091120news_article_geospatial_meeting.html). The next news meeting will focus on citizen journalism, and the geospatial meeting will focus on appraisal. I'm very excited to be participating in these upcoming meetings, and to learn more from you all about the types of content you care about, the challenges you face, and what we can accomplish together as a part of NDSA.
