Penn State University Libraries is seeking an Emerging Technologies and
Web Applications Specialist. The Emerging Technologies and Web
Applications Specialist will provide programming support to develop web
2.0, semantic Web and other emerging Web technologies and assist with
integrating them into enterprise software systems. Responsibilities
include monitoring trends in user-centered Web design and emerging web
technologies, creation of user-centered web tools and widgets, assisting
with JAVA and JSP programming to support the Libraries Web content
management system, participating in cross functional teams and providing
regular communication to library employees. This job will be filled as
a level 3 or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate’s
education and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or
higher plus four years of related experience or an equivalent
combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional
experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher
level jobs. Required skills include: Java, JSP, HTML, CSS, SQL,
JavaScript, and familiarity with Web 2.0 technology development;
demonstrated experience and enthusiasm with emerging Web technologies;
demonstrated commitment to diversity; ability to effectively communicate
specialized information to a non-specialized audience and excellent
organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred
skills include experience with XML/XSLT, HTML 5, CSS3, jQuery, Ajax,
additional server side scripting languages such as PHP, ColdFusion,
etc., Oracle databases; project management, excellent customer service
and demonstrated teamwork. Previous library experience is a plus. The
successful candidate will be an energetic self-starter, curious and
excited about new technologies. The University Libraries is a
