The College of Wooster Libraries are seeking outstanding applicants for an
Emerging Technologies Librarian. This newly created position is part of a
team developing rich online collections, evaluating emerging information
technologies, and assisting our campus community in the creation, sharing,
and preservation of digital scholarship.
The Emerging Technologies Librarian will provide leadership and expertise in
the identification, assessment, and implementation of emerging technologies
that further the Libraries’ mission. Ideal candidates will enjoy working
with technology, but also have a passion for teaching users and training
library colleagues in more advanced applications and web-based resources. As
a member of the Digital Scholarship and Services Department, this librarian
will also serve as a resource for the campus community on scholarly
communications issues, from author rights to open access, e-publishing
options, and copyright. The Emerging Technologies Librarian will serve as a
liaison to one or more academic departments and participate in reference
services, the instruction program, and outreach efforts. Andrews Library
will be undergoing a renovation this summer to create a center for
undergraduate research that complements and enhances The College of
Wooster’s highly regarded Independent Study program; the Emerging
Technologies Librarian will play a key role in helping the Libraries develop
the services and resources to best support this center.
Additional Responsibilities
- Identify and apply appropriate design principles, protocols, standards,
and emerging technologies to the Libraries’ various digital initiatives
- Lead efforts to capture, organize, access and archive the College’s
digital scholarship
- Coordinate library efforts in collaboration with IT and external
technology partners (e.g. OhioLINK or The Five Colleges of Ohio)
- Encourage and facilitate application of technologies to enhance
services to users, the Libraries’ online presence, and staff workflows and
efficiencies
- Supervise the Digital Scholarship and Services Associate
Qualifications
- MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent
- Knowledge of and interest in the protocols and tools used to create and
organize data in library systems: e.g. metadata schema, institutional
repository platforms, OAI, and digitization processes
- Well versed in scholarly communication issues
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
- Enthusiasm for exploring new technologies coupled with an ability to
identify and implement practical library and e-research applications
- Demonstrated initiative and creativity
- Strong project management and analytical skills
Desired
- Familiarity with graphic design principles
- Experience with CONTENTdm and DSpace
- Knowledge of intellectual property issues
- Experience working in an academic library
- Knowledge of XML, CSS, and other web standards
