Loyola Marymount University seeks a creative, enthusiastic candidate for the position of Digital Program Librarian. This librarian will be responsible for coordinating and managing created digital resources and the university's institutional repository, working closely with staff throughout the William H. Hannon Library.

Loyola Marymount, founded in 1911, is a comprehensive university in the mainstream of American Catholic higher education.  Located on the west side of Los Angeles overlooking the Pacific Ocean, LMU is one of the nation's 28 Jesuit colleges and universities and five Marymount institutions.  It serves 5,500 undergraduates and over 2,000 graduate students in the Colleges/Schools of Liberal Arts, Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Communication and Fine Arts, Film and Television, Education, and Law.  The William H. Hannon Library (http://library.lmu.edu) was opened in 2009 and serves as the intellectual and cultural hub of the university. Responsibilities:
The Digital Program Librarian has primary responsibility for building a comprehensive digital library program, including the expansion of the newly-created institutional repository.

Other position specific accountabilities are as follows: Lead the technical planning, implementation, management and support of digital collections; develop project proposals, workflow guidelines, and quality control procedures for library digitization projects; manage selected projects and workflow processes and procedures and content in the CONTENTdm system.  In collaboration with collections managers, identify existing content within the library for digitization; seek out new content and new partners for digital initiatives.  Manage the institutional repository, drafting policies and developing workflows for the deposit of content. Supervise and provide quality control for daily operations. Serve as primary administrator for the Digital Commons site and as liaison with university departments managing journals, refereed series, or symposia on the site.

The Digital Program Librarian will participate in other professional responsibilities as required, which may include service at the library's Information Desk, collection development and library liaison responsibilities for selected subject areas, and library and university committee work



Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must have broad knowledge of current trends in higher education, learning technologies, and digital library practices including rights management and preservation.  The successful candidate will be a strong project manager demonstrating curiosity about new technologies, collaborative ability, and a strong desire to innovate.  Other requirements include: A Master's Degree in Library/Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited program or related field.  Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of:  metadata schemes and standards, including MARC, EAD, VRA Core, RDA, and Dublin Core; digitization standards and best practices for a variety of media including text, music, still images, audio, and video; digital library practices, including rights management and preservation. Demonstrated computer competency and knowledge of XML, CONTENTdm, and Digital Commons or other IR systems.  Exemplary written, oral, and presentation communication skills.  Highly developed organizational and leadership skills. Strong project management skills. Capacity to thrive in an environment of change and to foster that capacity in others, including curiosity about new technologies.  Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of the profession.  Minimum of two years of digital library experience required.
