**About the position**
As a member of Knowledge Access Design and Development (KADD) within NYU
Libraries Knowledge Access and Resource Management Services (KARMS), the
Metadata Technology Specialist supports bibliographic discovery and access
within the NYU Library system. He or she analyzes, designs and implements
automation scripts and methods for metadata extraction, transformation, and
ingest; develops tools, training and documentation in support of metadata
encoding and transformation; assists in database table maintenance, system
reporting, analysis, trouble-shooting, and upgrades; contributes to research
and development of NYU metadata projects and initiatives; and consults with

**About Us**
The NYU Division of Libraries serves 40,000 students and faculty, manages more
5 million book volumes, 100,000 serial subscriptions, including 90,000
electronic journals, a half million electronic books, 30,000 linear feet of
archival materials, 1,700,000 photographs or photo negatives, well over
100,000 audio and video recordings in a variety of physical formats, and
250,000 digital resources (occupying over 100 terabytes) in about 30
collections. NYU Libraries is a member of the Association of Research

**Requirements**

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information science, library science,
or related field.
• 3
years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and
experience. Demonstrated experience with XML and XSLT, experience working in
Linux/Unix server environments, and experience performing data analysis on a
variety of data formats. Preferred: Experience working in a library,
particularly an academic or research library. Experience with one or more of
the suite of Ex Libris products (Primo, Aleph, Metalib, SFX); cataloging
experience or training.

Excellent analytical, customer service, and communication skills. Knowledge of
metadata standards, including MARC and Dublin Core. Ability to handle multiple
tasks simultaneously and establish appropriate priorities. Ability to work
productively on cross-departmental teams. Demonstrated ability to document
workflows and teach others. Experience writing scripts in Perl, PHP, bash,
Python, or Ruby. Knowledge of database architecture and SQL. Preferred:
Knowledge of library technology protocols such as OpenURL, OAI-PMH, Z39.5-,
SRU/W. Experience with Lucene/Solr.
