Responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of the Folger network
and infrastructure, including phone and voice mail systems. Responsible for
data security and retention. Responsible for computer operations, including
infrastructure, systems, hardware, operational and office operations software,
security, backup and protection of data. Maintains integrity of computer
infrastructure, including wiring and connections, shared software and files,
and configuration design. Performs network troubleshooting and upgrades.
Maintains internet and VPN connections. Keeps abreast of and identifies
emerging technologies. Monitors technology needs of the institution and
prepares budget projections to support expansion of these systems. Supports
Head of Collection Information Services in administering servers for Library's
ILS and digital preservation systems. Supports division specific software and
systems and provides technical support to institution's web sites. Develops
and maintains the BARD intranet site. Develops IT best practices and
procedures and complies with regulatory requirements. Responsible for
documentation of IT procedures. Plans and implements business continuity
program and records recovery. Works with staff to identify and prioritize
enhancements, new functionality, and new applications. Educates users and
facilitates communication between departments as relates to technology.
Provides help desk support as needed. Additional duties as assigned.
35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8:45 am to 4:45 pm. On call for
emergency management after hours and on weekends. Must be
able to sit, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, balance and climb stairs and
ladders. Must be able to move or lift equipment up to 40 lbs.
Degree in Computer and Information Sciences or similar field required, formal
training or certification in network administration desired. Minimum five
years' experience managing a staff and administering a network environment of
at least 100 users required. Progressive experience managing a computer
department staff and administering a network in a mixed platform environment.
Must be experienced with internet and other voice/data communications,
hardware components, and how to conduct trouble-shooting routines and
diagnostics. Ability to handle multiple priorities with eye towards future
technologies. Ability to develop procedures and manuals. Knowledge of web-
based technologies and database administration a plus. Excellent
interpersonal, analytical, communication and organizational proficiency
required. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Ability to
explain technology issues clearly, manage budgets and participate in pan-
institutional decision-making on technology issues. Experience providing
computer support in a library, archive, museum, or other cultural heritage
environment desired.
