The University of Oregon Libraries seeks a knowledgeable, creative, and user-
oriented colleague for the position of Archivist for Collections Management to
be part of the Special Collections and University Archives Department. This
position provides the opportunity to participate in a wide range of services
and professional responsibilities in a dynamic environment.

  
Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) staff members are active
partners in improving access to scholarly resources. The Special Collections
and University Archives team is composed of 6.75 FTE library faculty, 1.25 FTE
support staff members, and numerous student workers and volunteers. SCUA
members work closely with students and faculty to assist their scholarship and
sustain the education program. Located in the Knight Library, Special
Collections and University Archives serve the university and members of the
general public. Special Collections and University Archives contain an
estimated ~45,000 linear feet of materials. Holdings range from medieval
codices and rare books to literary and historical manuscripts, university
records, original art, photographs, architectural drawings, and ephemera.

  
**Duties and Responsibilities:**  
  
This position is responsible for managing and supervising collection
management activities for all formats in SCUA and managing and directing a
current NHPRC grant funded project (ending September 2013) to create
collection level EAD finding aids and MARC records for university archives and
manuscript collections. Specific duties include: directly supervising the
NHPRC Project Archivist; training and supervising student assistants,
volunteers, interns, temporary workers, and grant staff; managing the
accessioning program; maintaining donor tracking and correspondence for
accessions; managing arrangement and description functions, including setting
policies, procedures, workflows, and guidelines for all processing activities;
ensuring appropriate archival housing for collections; coordinating with
Electronic Records Archivist for the accessioning, arrangement, and
description of born digital records; managing the use and technical service
functions of Archivists' Toolkit for department; coordinates with other staff
for stacks/locations issues within the Toolkit; managing creation of finding
aids for Northwest Digital Archives (NWDA); adhering to regional and national
best practices and standards for description including DACS, EAD, NWDA best
practices, and other relevant documentation; coordinating with Collection
Services department for MARC cataloging of archival materials; setting
policies, procedures, and workflow in conjunction with Collection Services;
maintaining statistics, reports, and other metrics to improve collection
management functions; providing reference and research services to the campus
and the general public at the Special Collections and University Archives
reference desk. May participate in instruction activities. Remains
professionally active. Supports and participates in other work of the
department as assigned. Reports to the Head of Special Collections and
University Archives.

  
**Qualifications**:  
  
Required: ALA-accredited graduate degree in archives and records management,
library science, history, or related field with significant course work in
archives and records management or relevant archival certification or
equivalent experience; proven ability to prioritize work and meet multiple
deadlines; demonstrated analytical and organizational skills; ability to work
independently; experience with DACs, EAD, AACR2, MARC, and other standards and
best practices for arrangement and description of archival materials;
experience using Archivists' Toolkit or similar content management systems;
excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work collegially;
understanding of research use of manuscript and archival materials;
familiarity with standard desktop software applications (including Microsoft
Excel) and networked electronic resources; arecord of active participation in
professional associations and initiatives at the regional and national levelor
promise of the ability to do so.

  
Desired: project management experience; supervisory experience. The selected
candidate will support and enhance a diverse learning and working environment,
and must successfully complete a criminal background check.
