The Pritzker Legal Research Center of Northwestern University School of Law
invites dynamic and innovative librarians with interest and talents in
electronic resources management, cataloging and metadata, and the uses of
technology in education to apply for the position of Digital Services &
Emerging Technologies Librarian. The position reports to
the Acquisitions Librarian and Coordinator of Library Metadata Services and is
a full-time position, available immediately.
The successful candidate will join a law library that provides the highest-
quality resources, bibliographic access, user assistance, and online guidance
to the law school community. We seek someone who is creative, flexible,

Responsibilities: The Digital Services & Emerging
Technologies Librarian will provide electronic resource support using Serials
Solutions, SFX, Ex Libris' Voyager (NUcat) system and Primo interface, and the
library's website. He or she will assume primary
responsibility for day-to-day maintenance of our website.
The Digital Services & Emerging Technologies Librarian will catalog
predominantly serials and electronic titles, using original and complex
adaptive copy in all formats, including auxiliary activities such as authority
control. He or she will support, provide advice, and
organize and provide training and educational programs on the law school's
course management system (CMS) to faculty, students, staff, and
librarians. He or she will provide technical assistance and
support in the development of online, hybrid, and supplemental education
delivery. As needed by the law school, he or she will spearhead efforts to
provide outreach and new services using commonly-available social media and
emerging technologies in support of library, instructional or scholarly
communications activities. In advancing the law school's
instructional technologies, he or she will also coordinate with law faculty,
the Information Technology Department, law faculty assistants, and the
university educational technology group and other university departments as
appropriate.
Participation in professional development activities is encouraged and
supported.
Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS, or equivalent,
and two years of professional library experience.
Demonstrated experience with: an electronic resource
management system, a link resolver system, an integrated library management
system, the current generation of user discovery environments, and course
management systems. Demonstrated experience with the
provision of cataloging services in an academic setting, with knowledge of
issues relating to bibliographic treatment, authority control, and knowledge
access management, and a knowledge of current and forthcoming cataloging
standards, including AACR2, RDA and FRBR principles, MARC21, and Library of
Congress classification schedules and subject headings.
Demonstrated experience with HTML and website editing as well as use of
academic technologies. A strong service orientation and a
demonstrated ability to work efficiently and creatively in a collaborative and
dynamic environment. Strong written and oral communication
skills to engage faculty, staff, and students in formal and informal training
sessions. Must be self-directed, able to meet deadlines, and committed to
providing the highest level of responsive and innovative service to a
demanding patron base in a variety of settings.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Serials Solutions
electronic resource management products. Experience with
the Ex Libris suite of products, including Voyager, SFX, and
Primo. Familiarity with Dublin Core, XML, EAD, and other
metadata schema. Familiarity with Blackboard or other
course management systems. Interest in, and demonstrated library-related
experience with, currently-popular social media or emerging and/or academic
technologies. Teaching experience or demonstrated teaching
aptitude. At least one year of cataloging experience in an
academic law library, and excellent knowledge of print and electronic legal
resources.
