Queen Mary, University of London is the fourth largest College of the
University of London and has gained a reputation for the high-quality of its
academic teaching and research. It has some 15,000 students studying for
undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in three sectors: Science Humanities, Social Sciences and Law; and the School of Medicine
and Dentistry. The College has around 3,000 staff, a turnover of £175 million
per annum and will join the Russell Group this August.
The IT Services department are seeking to appoint an Academic Applications
Analyst to work closely with end users to introduce new applications to
support teaching and learning, research and administrative applications
critical to the activities of the College. A particular focus is on supporting
the server back-end for systems like the virtual learning environment (e.g.
Blackboard, Moodle), lecture capture system (e.g. Echo360), examination
software (e.g. Speedwell), institutional repository and library systems (e.g.
Endeca, DSpace, Primo) and systems to support research administration. An
excellent working knowledge of web services ( e.g. Apache, IIS, Tomcat and
Java) and application system administration on Linux and/or Windows server
operating systems will be required including some knowledge of associated
database technologies. The role will involve maintaining existing applications
as well as taking prospective applications from requirements specification and
design through to final implementation and delivery of the service. The
ability to identify customer requirements and use project management
methodology to implement solutions are also key functions for the role.
The successful applicant should be educated to degree level or equivalent or
have substantial experience built up by working in progressively more
challenging IT roles. Furthermore you should have
experience of successful identification, diagnosis, management and resolution
of server-based application problems to ensure the effective and efficient
delivery of service to customers, a customer-centred approach is a must.
Queen Mary IT Services is expanding and undertaking an exciting transformation
rationalising and consolidating disparate technologies and
services. The College has committed to considerable
investment in IT and this post will be subject to an internal restructure
within the next 18 months. The vision "Working in

goal.
The advert will run for a period of three weeks from the 23rd July until the
13th August. Shortlisting will occur week commencing 20th August with
successful candidates invited for interview on the 29th, 30th and 31st August.
These posts are full time and permanent. Starting salary will be in the range
£33,944 - £39,963 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30
days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season
ticket loan.
