Job Summary: Provides support for the Libraries' extensive technical
infrastructure supporting digital content storage and access; Technical
infrastructure includes a Digital Library Repository Service based on the open
source Fedora digital repository system to support the storage and management
of digital images, text, audio, video, and other content, plus a set of tools
and services to support ingestion, search and discovery, digital object
delivery and presentation, and preservation of digital content.
Independently and with very little supervision, responsible for the analysis,
design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the Digital Library
Repository Service, based on the open source Fedora repository system, and
supporting services, including ingest tools, indexing services, and gateways
for searching and metadata harvesting. Develops requirements; evaluates and
implements commercial and/or open-source software solutions; and designs,
codes, and tests software. Defines and implements interfaces with other IU
library university IT systems; works with other staff to define metadata and
content standards for repository; and provides leadership and guidance to
other developers.

Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical
discipline and five years of experience in the development of complex software
systems, including work in Java and relational database design and
programming.
Combinations of related education and experience will be considered.
Experience in Java web application development and Web Services; experience
with XML and XML-related technologies; and experience working in a Unix/Linux
environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills; good
interpersonal skills; and the ability to work as part of a team.
Preferred: Master's degree. Experience in project leadership; experience with
library systems and metadata standards; experience working with Apache Lucene
and/or Solr search systems; experience working with digital image, audio, and
video formats; and experience with PHP and/or Ruby on Rails programming.
