Columbia University's Center for New Media Teaching and Learning (CCNMTL)
seeks an experienced Educational Technologist. Reporting to the Director of
Projects, the incumbent will advance the educational goals of the curriculum
through purposeful use of technology and new media. The incumbent will manage
the planning and development of educational projects defined by faculty or
school partners. Duties include:
* Developing plans for applying educational practices and technology to a specific learning or teaching problem.
* Providing support to instructors in the creation and implementation of course websites using course management systems, and online resources such as wikis, blogs, and media platforms
* Defining the scope of moderately complex projects and services.
* Produces instructional materials for using technologies covered in the course.
* Provides oversight to programmers and designers on development of online environments and learning activities
* Designing and delivering instructor workshops on a variety of online tools and media services. Serves as subject matter expert for designated workshop content
* Conducting outreach and follow up with assigned departments and schools.
* Develops strong working relationships with academic staff and effectively accesses institutional resources
* Staying abreast and writing about emerging instructional technologies and evolving standards in educational practice and design.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
* Knowledge of pedagogical concepts and the use of instructional technology; strong and demonstrated project management skills
* familiarity with research tools and data analysis
* extensive experience using Macs and Windows machines
* knowledge of instructional software tools, Web2.0 and web services
* proficiency with HTML, CSS and Javascript
* excellent oral and written communication skills
* solid stand-up training skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
* advanced degree
* familiarity with a Unix environment
* familiarity with programming concepts and techniques.
