The Eugene McDermott Library at the University of Texas at Dallas invites
applications for the position of Senior Associate Library Director for Systems
and Digital Projects.
Reporting to the Director of Libraries, this senior administrative position is
responsible for envisioning and defining the services provided by the
integrated library systems and discover services (Ex Libris' Voyager/SFX/Primo
as well as the migration to Alma as an early adopter.)
Minimum Qualifications Master's degree from an ALA-
accredited institution or accredited graduate degree in another discipline is
required. Five years of experience managing an integrated library system is
essential. Working knowledge of new and emerging technologies and their
application for resource discovery, access, and management; demonstrated
success on project teams consisting of librarians, support staff and
programmer/developers; demonstrated management and supervisory experience;
experience providing excellent customer service; demonstrated excellent oral
and written communication skills; commitment to the continuing development of
personal knowledge and skills in the area of information technology as it
applies to libraries; proficiency in the application of Web 2.0 technologies
in academic libraries; and experience in supervising
programmers/developers.
Minimum Responsibilities The Senior Associate Library
Director will be responsible for managing all activities related to
information systems including implementation and maintenance of library
software products (ILLiad, EZProxy) and equipment/servers. The position will
require a working knowledge of systems administration (UNIX command structure,
Oracle, Apache, and security standards) and programming languages (e.g. Perl,
PHP, SQL, JAVA, XML), web services, and DSpace or other institutional
repository software. The Senior Associate Library Director is responsible for
managing all Library Systems Division personnel.
As a member of the Libraries' senior administrative group, the Senior
Associate Library Director shares responsibility for developing and
implementing the mission, goals and broad policy directions for the evolving
role of research libraries in the digital age. In addition to providing
overall leadership and vision for the Library Systems Division, the Senior
Associate Library Director prepares budget projections and needs assessments
for the Division; allocates and administers the Division's budget which
includes the Libraries' equipment, hardware and software budgets; and develops
partnerships with other parts of the University technology components
including Information Resources and Information Security.
The Senior Associate Library Director will demonstrate commitment to personal
professional development through scholarly research and publication,
presentations, and participation in national professional associations.
