This is an exciting opportunity to work with the design, maintenance, and
support of large-scale library server systems at a major university.
The Associate Software Developer is a 2-year IMLS grant-funded position (with
the possibility of renewal), which will perform software design, programming,
planning, implementation, and other tasks involved in the creation of an open
source video workflow software system called the Avalon Media System. In the
course of project development, this position will collaboratively work with
Northwestern University, Indiana University, and other software partners. This
position will also formulate objectives, prepare technical documentation, and
improve processes and tools.

This critical role:
* Codes, tests, debugs, and maintains the Avalon software system to support project objectives
* Performs systems analysis and design for Avalon, including working with project director and the multi-institutional development team to determine and document user and system requirements and developing a high-level architecture and detailed system design to meet requirements
* Participates in agile project planning, including demos, retrospectives, task and story writing, and regular communication with other institutions on progress and issues
**Minimum Qualifications:**
* A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired
* 1 year of experience in systems analysis and programming of complex software systems, working in an object-oriented programming language such as Java, C++, Python, or Ruby
* Experience with development using web services (REST, SOAP, and HTML)
**Preferred Qualifications:**
* A master's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field
* 2 or more years of experience in systems analysis and programming of complex software systems, working in an object-oriented programming language such as Java, C++, Python, or Ruby
* Advanced web development experience with MVC frameworks such as Ruby on Rails
* Knowledge of language standards including XML, XSLT, JavaScript, and SQL
* Prior experience with FEDORA digital repository software, including developing ingestion software, content modeling, and/or working with Library metadata formats (DC, MODS, VRA-CORE)
