Web Programmer
ZAI has an immediate need for a Web Programmer on the NASA Goddard Library contract in Greenbelt, Maryland. The Web Programmer will be responsible for the back-end development and on-going maintenance of the Goddard Library websites. This includes designing, building, and implementing the architecture for the websites, integrating sites with back end applications, migrating legacy applications to the Web, and performing day-to-day administration.
Job Responsibilities:
Design, develop and maintain the Library's virtual presence
Work with open source and proprietary software to develop and maintain specialized databases and web-based resources that comprise the electronic library
Provide ongoing site development and maintenance; programming and database work; web statistics collection, monitoring and reporting; some graphic design and multimedia development
Develop project specifications; maintain documentation
Qualifications and Skills:
U.S. Citizenship
BS Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field specific to work of the Goddard Space Flight Center
Minimum 3 years of experience in developing and maintaining web sites and web applications
Experience with Linux, Apache, shell scripting (bash, perl), Tomcat, Lucene/Solr
Experience using scripting languages (PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, etc.)
Experience with database programming and relational databases (MySQL)
Solid understanding of core web technologies and best practices (HTML, CSS, HTTP, XML, JSON, REST, SOAP)
Familiarity with usability testing, principles of information architecture, best practices and guidelines for accessible Web design
Effective communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Preferred:
Drupal 6 and 7 and theme development experience
Knowledge of the Fedora Repository experience
Basic understanding of the Zend Framework, Lucene and Solr
Experience with Java application development
Experience creating and manipulating graphic images, video and audio
Familiarity with library metadata standards and bibliographic information structure
Experience working with electronic library collections and digitization projects
Master's degree in Library/Information Science
