Position Summary
The Michigan State University Libraries is looking for a Web developer who is
user-focused, capable of working alone and with others, able to communicate, a
self-starter with a positive attitude, skilled in PHP, database design, and
ideally has some content management experience; selected candidate will
develop easy-to-use, informative, possibly life-altering Web applications and
sites for the faculty, staff, and students at Michigan State University and
beyond; Web Services plans to implement Drupal within the next year and
enhance our user's experience on an ever-continuing basis; the Libraries has
unique collections that we wish to share with the world in eye-catching,
functional, educational ways and you'll get a chance to make that happen;
staying on the edge of Web design, we want our mobile users to have as good an
experience as our desktop users; you can be involved in making that a reality.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years of college,
technical, vocational or business school such as an associate's degree in
computer technology or information systems; one year of related and
progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information
technology area; experience coding in PHP, Python, and/or PERL; experience in
relational database design, creation, and interfacing using SQL; experience
with HTML, CSS, XML, and JavaScript libraries such as jQuery; experience
implementing accessibility on Web sites via coding; experience testing
developed applications work on multiple platforms; experience with
implementing a content management system such as Drupal; or an equivalent
combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with version control software; understand client/server
interaction, including security concerns; comfortable interacting and able to
communicate with a wide variety of end-users with varied levels of experience;
knowledgeable in data mining and information retrieval; ability and desire to
continuously learn and grow.
