The Kreitzberg Library at Norwich University seeks a tech-savvy, creative and
service-oriented librarian to join the library team in developing and
maintaining our web services. The Web Services Librarian will play a key role
in the vision, design and management of the library's evolving web presence
and services. The successful candidate will have a strong public services
orientation and a commitment to learning new skills as the need arises. New

The Web Services Librarian is a newly aligned position designed to focus on
enhancing and supporting the library's web services. The librarian will
provide leadership for the library's web presence and associated activities
and initiatives, working with the Digital Services team and other Library
faculty and staff. A user-centered approach will guide the librarian's work
and the successful candidate will be encouraged to employ user testing and
usability studies. Norwich is an early adopter of OCLC's WorldShare Management
Services and in this capacity there is ample opportunity to develop web
applications that improve library processes and services. As an active member
of the library team, the librarian will provide reference and instruction in a
broad range of subject areas, serve as a liaison to campus academic
departments and hold collection development duties. Some evening and weekend
hours required. Reports to the Head of Digital and Distance Education
Services. Must have authorization to work for any employer in the U.S.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
ALA Accredited Master's Degree in Library and/or Information Science.
Demonstrated ability to design web pages using HTML and CSS.
Demonstrated ability to work with database (MySQL) and scripting languages
(PHP, JavaScript).
Familiarity with basic server administration (ideally Linux) and willingness
to further develop skills.
Experience in and/or desire to provide reference assistance, instruction, and
departmental liaison duties.
Ability to speak and write knowledgably and effectively.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Desired Qualifications
Experience or interest in applying principles of user experience design (UX)
and information architecture (IA) in a web environment, as well as working
with analytics software (i.e. Google Analytics).
Familiarity with developing web interfaces using recommended best practices
from the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Experience with content management systems (preferably Wordpress and/or
Drupal).
Experience with digital collection management software (preferably ContentDM).
Additional Information:
This is a faculty rank, non-tenure track, appointment commensurate with
academic achievements. Salary for this position is set at a minimum of
$42,500, depending on experience. Compensation includes a benefits package of
medical, dental, group life and long term disability insurance, flexible
spending accounts for health and dependent care, a retirement annuity plan,
tuition scholarships for eligible employees and their family members, and
generous professional development support.
Norwich University enrolls a civilian and military student body of 3,300 FTEs
in undergraduate, professional and graduate programs. Most of the graduate
programs are offered exclusively in an online environment. The library is a
beautifully designed, fourteen year old facility with six floors. It contains
more than 175,000 volumes and receives over 54,000 periodical titles in print
or electronic formats. The library is part of a statewide library network and
participates in several consortia.
Northfield, a New England village with population of 5,800, was founded in
1781, and is ten miles south of Montpelier, the Vermont state capital. It is
150 miles north of Boston and 100 miles south of Montreal.
