Location: Kentfield, Indian Valley (Novato) &/or Online, California

  
Description:

Reporting to the Director of Learning Resources, librarians could work on both
the Kentfield and Indian Valley (Novato) campuses as part of the regular
assignment.

  
The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  
Assisting and instructing students, faculty and staff in information literacy
skills, using print and electronic resources

Developing, maintaining and organizing electronic information sources
throughout the library, regardless of location

Maintaining the library's interface with online courses

Participating in collection development

Ensuring the library's compliance with federal, Title 5 and College of Marin
requirements for access to information

Note: College of Marin's faculty pools are open to applications on a
continuous basis. Although there may not be any current openings, applications
will remain on file until the hiring department has an immediate need to add
candidates to their pool. Screening and interviews can be conducted at any

Essential Functions:

Provide instruction in the use of information resources and the development of
information competency skills:

  
Teach library research and information literacy skills at the Reference Desk

Prepare and present general and subject-specific class library orientations,
including the use of the online catalog, databases, and web resources

Teach library/information literacy skills workshops or courses

Collaborate with other college faculty in developing information competency
components within their disciplines

Assess and utilize appropriate technologies for delivering instruction to on-
campus, remote, and online students

Collection Development:

Assist in the selection, acquisition, and de-selection of all library
materials in order to maintain and enhance the library collection

Actively promote the use of library resources and services by assisting
faculty in identifying, locating, acquiring, offering, and using library
resources and services to support classroom instruction

Act as an effective liaison to faculty in assigned departments/programs

Reference:

Provide research/reference assistance to students, faculty, and staff

Serve on regularly scheduled reference hours, including evenings and possibly
weekends

Other Duties:

Advise, assist, and evaluate student performance and learning outcomes

Contribute to development of programs, policies, and procedures

Participate as needed in college professional committees and activities

Maintain currency and knowledge in assigned area of responsibility

Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics

Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements & Desirables:

REQUIREMENTS

1.) A Master's degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science;
or

2.) The equivalent; and

3.) Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic,
socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community
college students and the campus community.

  
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

A.) Demonstrated experience teaching information literacy skills

B.) At least three years' professional library experience, preferably in a
college or university library

C.) Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with a variety of instructional
methods for teaching college students information literacy skills

  
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (Desirable Attributes and Skills)

  
Ability to teach research skills, using print and electronic resources,
including the Internet

Ability to establish effective and collaborative working relationships with
colleagues, students, faculty and staff

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Demonstrated successful reference/public service experience in an urban
community college/academic or public library environment, serving patrons of
diverse backgrounds and needs

Demonstrated experience in applying technology and telecommunications
solutions to the delivery of information in library environments including
electronic access equipment for library computers/peripherals

Demonstrated familiarity with creating and delivering information over a
variety of computer platforms, client/server protocols and integrated library
systems

Demonstrated experience maintaining and updating library web sites

Demonstrated experience using HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript and other web
programming languages and tools

Experience with learning management systems

Knowledge of and demonstrated effective experience with current and emerging
digital library technologies and print resources required to meet the
informational and educational needs of a very diverse clientele

Demonstrated ability to create online library materials using resources such
as Wikis, web software, HTML, CGI, course management software and other web
development tools

Ability to assist students, faculty, and staff in the use of computer,
audiovisual, and multimedia software, mobile devices and equipment for
research purposes

Experience or training in planning and implementing outreach and distance
learning programs

Demonstrated ability to use an integrated library system (such as Millennium)
to extract bibliographies, produce statistics, or generate reports

Ability to respond creatively and innovatively in an environment of rapid
change

FOREIGN DEGREE HOLDERS: All foreign degree credentials must be evaluated by a
third party to determine the equivalent U.S. degree and major, and the Foreign
Credential Evaluation must be attached to your application before your
application will be considered. Not attaching your Foreign Credential
Evaluation will render your application incomplete. Evaluations should include
a course-by-course evaluation and provide the name of the institution
attended, a description of your credentials, the major field of study, and the
U.S. equivalent for each credential. For a list of evaluating agencies, visit
the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Note: Even if you
obtained your graduate degree(s) in the U.S., you must attach a Foreign
Credential Evaluation for your undergraduate degree if it was obtained outside

SALARY INFORMATION

FLSA Status: Exempt

Bargaining Unit: Librarians are represented by the United Professors of Marin
(UPM) bargaining agreement and are considered faculty members. Please refer to
our Human Resources web site for the United Professors of Marin salary
schedule.

  
Salaries for Part-time Temporary Pool members are based on the number of units
(hours) assigned and are paid at 95% of the Full-time Faculty Salary Schedule.
New part-time librarians will be placed between Step I, Column I and Step 7,
Column 5 of the salary schedule, depending on background and experience.

  
Temporary Part-time Librarian Payment Formula:

First, determine the number of units: Hours per semester ÷ 599 (round to 4
decimal places) x 15 units = # of Units. Then:

  
Annual salary (from salary schedule) x # of Units ÷ 30 units x 95% = semester
payment; divide by five (5) = monthly salary.
