Marymount University invites applications for an Instruction/Reference
Librarian. As a member of the Education Services Group, the successful
candidate promotes the academic, professional, and personal success of
Marymount students, faculty, and staff by providing learning assistance and by
creating, selecting, and evaluating learning resources. The successful
candidate provides formal and informal library instruction to groups and
individuals in the Library's information literacy and curriculum integrated
instruction programs; prepares materials that facilitate use of the
collection; instructs users in the research process and supports the
information literacy program of the Library; contributes to library
initiatives to integrate information literacy across the curriculum;
participates in assessment activities related to the library's instruction
programs and supports the continuous improvement of instructional programs and
practices within Library and Learning Services.

Librarians at Marymount University participate in collection development,
serve as L&LS liaisons to a School or department, teach library instruction
and information literacy classes; provide reference and research assistance;
and, represent L&LS on and off campus by participating in a variety of teams,
task-forces, and committees.

  
CORE SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES

  
-Participate in designing, implementing and delivering a comprehensive information literacy and library instruction program.  
  
-Participate in designing and implementing the assessment of the library's instructional programs including information literacy.  
  
-Develop necessary instructional material in a variety of formats.  
  
-Support faculty learning and development of information literacy skills.  
  
- Develop partnerships on campus with other teaching and learning units to develop programs and services to support student development of information literacy and research skills.  
  
- Provide reference and research assistance to users at all service locations through a variety of communication formats including in-person, phone, e-mail, and virtual reference, including a regular evening and weekends and holidays, as needed.  
  
-Assist in developing, leading, and evaluating reference team projects and programs.  
  
-Coordinate at least one service/programming areas within Education Services including, but not limited to, instructional programs for English composition, transfer students transfer, distance programs, etc.; web-based instructional programs; reference.  
  
LIBRARIANSHIP

  
-Develop the collection and select library material, in all formats, in assigned subject areas.  
  
-Act as L&LS liaison to assigned University departments and /or programs.  
  
-Teach library instruction sessions and contribute to team projects related to instruction.  
  
-Work with assigned department and program chairs to achieve information literacy objectives.  
  
-Will be expected to coordinate a core service team; service group or major program area within L&LS.  
  
-Participate as a member of the faculty of Marymount University in accordance with the Marymount University Faculty Handbook.  
  
TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES

  
-Commitment to working collaboratively in a team environment.  
  
-Coordinate or act as a resource person for assigned/defined work teams, groups, or task forces.  
  
-Seek out methods to improve processes and procedures and shares with teams, groups, and taskforces.  
  
-Continually acquires new knowledge and updates skills to enhance professional performance in all areas of responsibility.  
  
-Demonstrate ability to manage multiple projects within a fluid work environment.  
  
-Assume other responsibilities based on L&LS needs.  
  
Minimum Qualifications Master's degree from an ALA accredited program is
required. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent oral and written
communication skills; strong interpersonal, organizational, and time
management skills; excellent teaching and presentation skills; an
understanding of key issues and trends in reference, library instruction,
information literacy, instructional technologies and library services in an
academic setting. The successful candidate will also be distinguished by the
ability to work effectively with diverse academic groups; a commitment to
working collaboratively in a team environment; the ability to manage multiple
projects in a dynamic work environment; and to providing excellent customer
service.

  
The position requires experience in the use of technology for improving
library services and the successful candidate must demonstrate a proficiency
in using instructional technologies and social media to achieve pedagogical
goals.

  
Preferred Qualifications

  
-A degree in science or business  
-Experience as a librarian in an academic setting providing reference and instruction.  
-Additional advanced degree (a second Master's degree is required for advancement).  
-Experience with subject guide platforms, blogging platforms, chat reference software and other commonly used library communication and instructional platforms.  
-Experience creating web-based instructional materials including research guides and tutorials.
