The Librarian for Chemistry and Environmental Sciences actively engages with
faculty, students, visiting scholars, and staff in the Chemistry department
and in the Nicholas School of the Environment, as well as in chemistry and
environmental science related fields, providing and promoting library
resources and services that support their work. S/he provides specialized
research assistance and instruction to library users and develops and manages
the Libraries' collections in chemistry and environmental science.
* Serves as primary liaison to faculty and students in Chemistry department and to the Nicholas School of the Environment.
* Provides in-depth, specialized research consultation for students, faculty, and visiting scholars.
* Participates in the rotational schedule for the Research Services desk and instant messaging, answering questions about the Libraries' resources and assisting patrons.
* Provides classroom instruction and individual orientation to library resources.
* Participates in Natural Sciences and Engineering Section of subject librarians and fosters cooperation with other staff at Duke and relevant personnel at other institutions.
* Works with Natural Sciences and Engineering Collections Coordinator to develop collections to support research and instruction in Chemistry and Environmental Sciences formulating policies and selecting materials in all formats and relevant languages.
* Provides input to Natural Sciences and Engineering Collections Coordinator for the material budget and approval plan in support of Chemistry and Nicholas School of the Environment including grants and endowment funds.
* Assists with the public interface and access to electronic resources and other applications of technology.
* Participates in and contributes to management and curation of scientific research data.
* Participates in the development of Research Services policies.
* Promotes use of subject-specific information resources and services in ways that meet user needs and expectations, utilizing current technologies and information tools.
* Participates in development and fund raising efforts as appropriate and feasible.
* Participates in other library, university and professional activities, as appropriate.
* Performs other tasks as designated by the section head or library administration.

Required: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program or an advanced degree
in a relevant subject field.
Preferred: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program and an undergraduate
or advanced degree in a relevant subject field.
Required: Familiarity with information resources in a variety of formats in
the natural sciences and engineering, humanities, social sciences and
experience with government publications; teaching or library instruction
experience. Must be flexible and a self-starter; have the ability to work
successfully in a highly collaborative environment; possess excellent
organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills as
well as a strong commitment to public service.
Preferred: Three years of relevant professional experience and strong academic
background in a relevant field; experience providing research support,
preferably in an academic setting; familiarity with web publishing
technologies; experience with user and/or usability study methodologies;
experience with assessment tools and methods; experience with data management
and knowledge of concepts related to open access.
Must be able to work in an environment in which exposure to materials
containing dust and mold is possible

Salary and rank dependent on qualifications and experience. Comprehensive
