The University of Mary Washington Libraries seek a knowledgeable, tech-savvy,
and service oriented Reference and Instruction Librarian to join the staff of
the Stafford Campus Library. As part of this team-centered library system, the
Reference and Instruction Librarian will develop and teach student-centered,
course integrated information literacy sessions in the classroom and online.
The individual in this position will also provide specialized research
assistance at the information desk and through the Library's online reference
services to the students, faculty, and staff of the Stafford Campus. The
Reference and Instruction Librarian will provide circulation, technical, and

which will include evenings and some Saturdays. This Librarian will also serve
as liaison to the College of Business, College of Education, and the Division
of Professional Development and Regional Engagement. Additionally, the
individual in this position will participate in the maintenance of the
Libraries' web presence and in the selection of materials for the Stafford
Campus Library's collections.

The UMW Libraries constitute the knowledge center of the university -- a
physical and virtual manifestation of the institution's mission of connected,
integrated, and engaged teaching, learning, research, and service. The UMW
Libraries are committed to supporting the University's mission of creating an
environment where students, faculty, and staff share in the creation and
exploration of knowledge in the development of their academic and professional
interests and in practicing the habits of mind necessary for life-long
learning.

Required Qualifications:

  * Knowledge of electronic and print reference resources
  * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, course management software (e.g. Canvas), online presentation/tutorial creation software (e.g. Camtasia, Jing), and social media applications (e.g. chat/IM, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube)

  * Excellent oral and written communication skills
  * Strong commitment to outstanding public service
  * Master's Degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited Master's program (MLS/MLIS)
  * Experience in providing online and in-person reference services
Preferred Qualifications:

  * Working knowledge of WordPress or HTML
  * Working knowledge, proficiency preferred, in the use of an automated library circulation system (e.g. Virtua) or an automated interlibrary loan system (e.g. Illiad)
  * Knowledge of current and emerging trends in reference, instruction, distance education or library related technologies
  * Previous academic library experience
  * Experience teaching library and information literacy
  * Undergraduate degree or related research experience in business, education, or information systems
  * Experience providing services to non-traditional or distance education students

The University of Mary Washington accepts only completed online applications.
Faxed, mailed, or emailed applications will not be considered. Employment
offers are contingent upon the successful completion of criminal background
checks. If accommodations are requested either before or at the time of the
interview, contact the AA/EEO Officer in Human Resources at 540/654-1211.

The University of Mary Washington is a public arts and sciences institution in
Fredericksburg, Va., that attracts intellectually curious undergraduate and
graduate students in search of rigorous academics. With a total enrollment of
nearly 5,000 students, UMW offers a supportive campus community that values
and instills honor and integrity. Moreover, the university located midway
between Richmond, Va., and Washington, D.C. provides a rich array of research,
internship, leadership, and recreational opportunities that not only train
students for the real world but allow them to interact closely with faculty
members.

In addition to its primary location in the heart of historic Fredericksburg,
UMW has two other campuses, one in Stafford, which caters to working
professionals, and another in Dahlgren, which offers graduate science and
engineering programs. There are three colleges: arts and sciences, business,
and education all of which produce graduates who are critical thinkers
prepared to succeed. UMW also recently developed a Center for Economic
Development, which connects faculty and students with regional initiatives and
businesses seeking their assistance.

In recent years, the University of Mary Washington has seen its academic
reputation garner national recognition in numerous selective guidebooks,
including Forbes, the Fiske Guide to Colleges and the Princeton Review's
edition of The Best 376 Colleges. The university also has been recognized in
Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine, U.S. News & World Report, Peterson's
Competitive Colleges and Barron's Profiles of American Colleges.
