Georgetown University Law Library is seeking applications for the newly
created position of Associate Law Librarian for Digital Initiatives.

  
Located in the nation's capital and within walking distance of the U.S.
Congress and the Supreme Court, Georgetown University Law Center is known for
the quality of its scholarship, the teaching of its faculty, which is among
the largest in the nation, and for its talented and diverse student body. The
Law Library consists of the Edward Bennett Williams Law Library and the John
Wolff International and Comparative Law Library. Focused on innovation and
excellence in service, it is among the largest academic law
libraries.

  
Under the direct supervision of the Law Library Director, the Associate Law
Librarian for Digital Initiatives is responsible for the development,
implementation, maintenance, and advancement of digital projects and
collections at the library. Principal duties include the analysis of digital
project needs and solicitation of digital project ideas from the Georgetown
and library communities; development, coordination, and administration of
independent and collaborative digital projects, including the Chesapeake
Digital Preservation Group; creation of procedures, documentation, and
workflow for digital projects; digitization of relevant materials and
supervision of personnel involved in digitization; development of digital
rights management policies; investigation, planning, and management of digital
preservation, including format conversion or migration; education of the
library staff and other constituencies on the library's digital projects and
initiatives; participation in seeking and/or managing grant funding for
digital initiatives; and participation in the development and execution of new
and emerging Web archiving, digitization, and digital asset preservation
initiatives.

  
The Associate Law Librarian for Digital Initiatives is also expected to
participate actively in the intellectual life and administrative activities of
the Law Center, to fulfill the responsibilities of the position in a superior
manner, and to grow professionally in knowledge, expertise, effectiveness, and
where appropriate, scholarship.

  
Required:

  
M.L.S. or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited library school; minimum of
3 years of project management experience on digital projects; demonstrated
supervisory experience; ability to work both independently and collaboratively
across departments, campuses, and institutions; ability to balance multiple
priorities in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail; proficiency
with digitization equipment and software, the Internet, and library-relevant
information technology applications; familiarity with a variety of metadata
standards; excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills;
commitment to librarianship and to a superior level of service to faculty and
students in an academic environment.

  
Preferred:

  
J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school or understanding of legal systems and
materials; instructional or public relations experience.
