Furman University seeks an energetic and innovative individual to manage the
day-to-day operations of the Library's DigiCenter which is responsible for the
development and maintenance of the University's digital collections.
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Discovery Services, the DigiCenter
Manager is responsible for planning and managing the digitization of analog
materials, developing and implementing metadata standards, maintaining the
Library's digital repository software: LUNA, and supervising the DigiCenter
Specialist (a full-time staff position) and 5-6 student assistants. The
successful candidate will demonstrate experience with project planning,
digitization techniques and standards, digital media editing software, and
metadata assignment. This position will serve as a liaison with University
faculty and Library Special Collections staff in the development of digital
collections.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Identifies, plans, prioritizes, and oversees the completion of digital
collections including: setting project priorities, standards, timelines, and
workflows; allocating responsibilities and resources; serving as a resource
for copyright information; and working with project partners in a
collaborative environment to complete digital collections in a timely fashion.
• Manages administration of the Digital Repository, LUNA, including: building
and populating collections; customizing user access and interfaces;
troubleshooting software; maintaining LUNA Insight server-side application;
and training faculty, staff, and students in use of software.
• Develops and maintains metadata standards including: the assignment of
metadata fields on a project-by-project basis; coordinating the creation of
metadata; and uploading metadata into LUNA.
• Conducts quality control on all digitized material and metadata created by
the Digicenter Specialist and student workers to ensure standards are met.
• Handles confidential information and materials.
• Maintains DigiCenter website content and contributes to Digital Collections
blog.
• Works in conjunction with the Assistant Director for Discovery Services on
project decisions that require higher-level assistance.
• Coordinates with the Systems Assistant and Information Technology Services
to order and install specific software and hardware.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Master's degree or Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of relevant
experience. Experience in the use of digitization equipment, digitization
standards, and the management of a digital repository. Experience with Adobe
Creative Suite 5 or higher, media editing software, and Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of cataloging/metadata standards and applications. Familiarity with
copyright concerns. Experience with Mac OS X and Windows operating systems,
and knowledge of multimedia file formats and procedures.
Preferred: Supervisory experience. Experience with scripting languages (e.g.
PHP, AppleScript, JavaScript). Knowledge of library operations and library-
specific systems. Experience with server application management, specifically
Windows Server and Apache Tomcat. 5+ years of experience in a related field.
SALARY
Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
