TPDL 2013 - Call for Doctoral Consortium
17th International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries
22-26 September 2013
Valletta, Malta
www.tpdl2013.info

--------

* Introduction *
Tradition and service to the community are important cornerstones of the
scientific environment. As such, we are glad to invite submissions to the
TPDL 2013 Doctoral Consortium.

The TPDL Doctoral Consortium follows an important tradition of events aimed
at providing, to the next generation of young, talented Digital Library
researchers, a friendly and lively atmosphere for presenting their research
ideas, exchange experiences with peers, and receive constructive feedback
on their work from the international research community.

Some of the goals of the TPDL Doctoral Consortium include:
- help doctoral candidates formulate research questions and organize their
research;
- help forge new relationships and collaborations within the International
Digital Library community, promoting collaborative research; and
- support a new generation of researchers with information and advice on
academic, research, industrial, and non-traditional career paths.

* Submissions *
Submissions, in the format of extended abstracts of up to ten (10) pages,
must focus on digital libraries related issues, and should summarize work
at a stage of progress in which feedback from the international community
might be of value. It is expected that students who submit extended
abstracts have already finished the first part of their research (one-two
years of their studies), but still are in the middle of their research work.

A panel of prominent researchers participating in the TPDL Program
Committee will conduct the workshop. They will review all the submissions
and comment on the content of the work as well as on the presentation.
Students will have 20 minutes to present their research, focusing on the
main theme of their thesis, what they have achieved so far, and how they
plan to continue their work. The following 20 minutes are reserved for
discussion and feedback from the panel of reviewers. The Doctoral
Consortium will take place on a single full day. Up to 12 students will
have the opportunity to participate.

Submissions should be related to one or more of the conference themes as
stated in the Call for Research Papers. Moreover, they should be presented
in a way that demonstrates the link to the chosen conference theme(s), and
they should contain:
- a clear formulation of the research topic and research hypotheses;
- an outline of the significant problems in the field and their current
solutions;
- a description of the proposed approach and its expected contributions;
- a discussion of preliminary results; and
- an evaluation (-plan) of the research.

All papers must be written in English and follow Springer's LNCS
guidelines. Please send your submission directly by email to the Doctoral
Consortium chairs Marcos Gonçalves ([log in to unmask]) or Stefan
Gradmann ([log in to unmask]**berlin.de<[log in to unmask]>)
with Subject "TPDL 2013 Doctoral Consortium Submission".

Revised versions of the presented extended abstracts will be published
after the conference in a special issue of the TCDL Bulletin, the
publication of the IEEE-CS Technical Committee on Digital Libraries (
http://www.ieee-tcdl.org/**Bulletin/current/index.html<http://www.ieee-tcdl.org/Bulletin/current/index.html>
).

* Important Dates *
- Extended abstract submission: June 2, 2013
- Notification of acceptance: June 24, 2013
- Submission of final abstract: July 15, 2013
- Doctoral Consortium: September 22, 2013

* More information *

Inquiries can be sent to the Doctoral Consortium Chairs Marcos Gonçalves (
[log in to unmask]) and Stefan Gradmann ([log in to unmask]**
