General Description:

This is a professional, faculty position responsible for implementing the
library's digital archival and special collections infrastructure by
developing the digital repository and departmental websites. Responsible for
providing leadership to specific activities involving copyright, digitization
and preservation standards, quality control, materials preparation and
usability studies. Responsible for all operations of the East Texas Research
Center (ETRC) in the absence of the ETRC director. This is a security-
sensitive position. Reports to the director of the East Texas Research Center.

  
Essential Job Functions:

1. Oversees processing for the appraisal and ingestion of material into the
digital repository.

2. Maintains and updates the departmental websites.

3. Collaborates with staff and departments to assess the appropriateness and
applicability of digital initiatives projects.

4. Develops digitization guidelines and best practices and trains staff to
ensure quality control and preservation of digitized collections.

5. Serves as community liaison to provide training on the maintenance and
management of digital and digitized materials.

6. Creates online exhibits.

7. Conducts oral histories and creates collections in the digital repository.

8. Stays abreast of developments and emerging trends in scholarly
communication in the digital environment.

9. Assists in the preservation and conservation of ETRC materials.

10. Performs reference service and research assistance for ETRC clientele.

11. Maintains statistical data and conducts usability studies.

12. Participates in the hiring, training and supervision of Center staff.

  
Non-Essential Job Functions:

1. Participates in recruitment and retention activities as appropriate.

2. Serves as needed on library and university committees.

3. May be required to work a flexible schedule including weekend or evening
duty.

4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

  
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.

2. Knowledge of professional standards and regulations.

3. Knowledge of archival standards and best practices including processing
archival collections and creating finding aids.

4. Knowledge of digital asset management systems and other applications.

5. Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheets, databases and
word-processing software.

6. Skill in basic web development.

7. Ability to learn office and university-specific software.

8. Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.

9. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

10. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty
and staff, students, and the general public.

11. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  
Education:

Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school or a public history
program with an emphasis in archival studies is required.

  
Experience and Training:

Two years of related experience is preferred. Formal training in archival
management and preservation is required. Familiarity with historical research
methods is required.

  
Work Hours: Monday - Friday

8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Minimum Pay Rate: 40,300
